View Full Version : What's your choice?

If you could have witnessed/been a part of any one event in Fellowship of the Ring, what would it be?

Personally, I would have wanted to be at the Council of Elrond to see Frodo take up his burden ( and Sam jump in at his side!).

WHAT?? Only ONE???? What kind of cruelty is this??? :D :D :D I don't know if I can pick only one. But from FotR, hmmmm . . . I would've liked to see Frodo's moving rendition of 'The Cow Jumped Over The Moon'. *sigh* Good old bar songs! *wipes away tear* Nothin' quite like 'em . . . yes, those were the good old days . . .

Well, there certainly is a lot to choose from.
Let me pick the scene in Moria when the Company is attacked and Gandalf fights the Balrog. Awesome!

And then I could settle all debates on whether Balrogs have wings! :D

01-30-2002, 05:57 PM
Too hard to choose just one, but my FIRST answer would be to see Eowyn's (and Meriadoc's) encounter with the Chief Nazgul--from a safe distance, of course (tho it would be cool to see what the Balrog did with his wings when he wasn't using them-:); an evening at Mr.and Mrs. Bombadil's residence would be neat; Bilbo's disappearance at his eleventy-first birthday party sounds like fun to watch; anything in Lorien and Rivendell; Gandalf casting Saruman down from his office...)

Yo, Ann, how's about making this a package tour?

Menelvagor
01-30-2002, 08:43 PM
WAAAAY to many thing to chose from. I would love to see Gandalf fight the balrog, and Eowyn and Marry fighting the Witch King, also the breaking of the fellowship with Boromir's death and Frodo sitting on Amon Din. Maybe if I had to choose though, I would pick the battle at Helm's Deep (and the day after when Aragorn looks into the palantir), that would be so cool.:)

Arathorn

only one?

I would like to be beside Sauron from the moment he finds out that Frodo and the ring are near the Crack of Doom up to the time Smeagol falls in.

I would've also wanted to be at the last great battle in front if Mt Doom just before Sauron's finger is cut, preferably on a great eagle's back for a bird's eye view.

You are cheating, people! The question was on FotR! ;)

ragamuffin92
01-31-2002, 09:02 AM
OOOPS!! (Not so much cheating as not paying attention) Still a tough choice, but first choice would be the stay in Lothlorien; alternate choice #1--the stay in Rivendell; alternate choice #2-- the visit with Tom and Goldberry.

Ah Gee, just one?! :( Well at least you limitted it just to the Fellowship of not the whole Trilogy or I would have been here thinking about everything.

Probably when Gandalf vs. the Balrog. Its so powerful when he commands the rest of the company: "Fly you fools", such a great line. Also to see a Balrog would be wonderful; scary yes, but also great.:cool:

Arathorn
01-31-2002, 12:02 PM
Yup I wasn't paying attention either...but I guess I beat the possible next question about the other books..:D

OK...I'd be in Theoden's court trying to outdo Grima in predictions and impress Theoden and his daughter since I know what's happening in the other lands and what to expect.;)

When what remains of the fellowship comes along...too late the heroes..

Definately Weathertop. It's my favourite bit in the books (isn't it sad when you can read up to your favourite bit in only two or three days!).

Nariel Starfire
01-31-2002, 05:20 PM
I think I would have enjoyed the fight with the wolves or when the Lorien ELves show up, toss a rope across the river, and just run across. Also on the mountain where Legolas just jumps up on the snow and takes off and waves at aragorn and boromir as he runs by.:D

I'd be in the balrog scene... with a camcorder and someone who can give expert testimony on exactly what 'wings' are.

Menelvagor
01-31-2002, 05:58 PM
oops... me too. I'de like to see the entir scene at Bree, from when they arrive to when they leave.

I'd be in the balrog scene... with a camcorder and someone who can give expert testimony on exactly what 'wings' are.

That would be something. I am sure the video would end up being a cross between every Bigfoot documentary you've ever seen and the Blair Witch Project. The visual would be extreemly blurry, and you would die just as the thing reaches the bridge. The expert would escape with the footage, and we would all argue about whether it looked more like an oversized vulture, gorilla or Tom Bombadil (only with pointy ears). But all this would be quite besides the point, the real heart of the matter would have been spoken by the expert himself upon his return: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

Any of the scenes in Lothlorien or Rivedell, especially the Council of Elrond.

When the group runs into the Balrog at Moria.

FrodoFriend
01-31-2002, 10:42 PM
AI! You are insane, or maybe really brave! If I saw a Balrog I'd run away screaming and crying! No, thanks, nice peaceful happy things for me, like Bilbo's party or Tom Bombadil's house. Although watching Gimli and Legolas massacre 83 orcs would be fascinating . . .

Eruviel Greenleaf
01-31-2002, 11:16 PM
I would want to witness...everything, of course! But the limit is one, so...anything in Lothlorien or Rivendell, or the scene at Weathertop, or the Ford of Bruinen would be cool to see as well!

Renille
01-31-2002, 11:21 PM
Awww...only 1??? No fair!

I would choose the departure from Lothlorien. That's been my favorite scene ever since I first read it.

athelas
02-01-2002, 04:32 AM
Lothlorien would be great. I could spend weeks and weeks lazing there...after all time doesn't seem to pass there.( Great change from school. My weeks seem to pass like seconds) Rivendell would be great too. Or maybe riding down the Anduin on elven boats and getting a glimpse of the pillars of Argonath would be cool. No fighting orcs, trolls and running from Balrogs for me though. It would be my first and last glimpse of Middle Earth.:(

If I had to choose just one scene from FotR to have been a part of, I'd choose to be with them when Sam has his first encounter with the elves (Gildor and co.), after the black rider has left of course!

BeardofPants
05-08-2002, 10:07 PM
The barrowdowns. It's so eerie, and then Bombadil comes and rescues them!

A close second would be the falls of rauros...

Khamûl

Just FotR? How about the bridge of Khazad-Dûm? That's one of my favorite parts in the book. Or maybe the Great Hall of Moria. I don't know.:( Moria was my favorite section of the book, so just somewhere in that great dwarven city.:)

I'd personally love to go to Bilbo AND FRODO'S!!!! birthday party. It sounds like lots of fun, free food, plenty of alcohol, dancing, music and lots and lots of hobbits. perfect.

05-10-2002, 05:31 AM
Since my choice is limited to FOTR, I would say when Sam realises he will see elves and bursts into tears. Or I could be really naughty and say the bath scene or when the hobbits run around naked! :D

Faramir
05-12-2002, 12:24 AM
I agree with Khamul, anywhere in Moria, particularly the battle with the Balrog at Khazad-dum;)

Garina
05-14-2002, 05:07 AM
uuuummmmmm dunno. Probably Lothlorien or Rivendell. I'm too much of a wimp to be near any action. Although, I would have liked to see the Ents destroy Isengard! I think Treebeard is cool.

Earenya
05-14-2002, 11:42 PM
wow, hard choice...

I would be hard pressed to choose between Lothlorien and Moria.... a Balrog or Galadriel???

Lizra
05-15-2002, 07:42 AM
of course Bilbo's birthday party! I get enough of the heavy stuff in real life. I'd go early, dance my a** off (hopefully with Gandalf some ), eat some of that gorgeous cake and watch all the fireworks with some wine. I love fireworks and Gandalf's are the best. They wouldn't have to cart me out in a wheelbarrow the next day,but I'd be pretty sad knowing what all was to come..

FoTR? hmm..id like to be witht he Fellowship in Balin's tomb..good chance to hack on some orcs;)

I would want to witness Frodo getting stabbed by the ringwariths. That would be soooo cool and i would probably start crying. Either that or the flight to the ford. That bit is so cool "You shall have neither the ring nor me" wow.

Ps i am not sure about that quote; i was working from memory.

I think I'd have to go along with ann's first post here. I'd like to be an invisible person at the Council of Elrond. Just imagine hearing all those representatives from different races bickering and arguing and then seeing Frodo standing up and saying "I will take the Ring to Mordor but I do not know the way".

Cool!

Umm, is that the scene from the movie or book? I would prefer the book version because they talk about the history of ME in more detail.

Eruviel Greenleaf
05-25-2002, 01:49 AM
I too would prefer the book version of that scene. . .there's the history, and Bilbo's there, and all sorts of other things that I would like to see. Though that would not be my first choice. . .I don't know what I would want to see.

Radagast The Brown

I would like to be in Rivendel in the morning when Frodo awoke (actually, I would like to live in Rivendel, but it's not part of the story).

Aragorn_iz_cool

I want to watch Eowyn and Merry Battle the Witch-King(as a bird flying overhead.) Then poop on the dead Witch-King.

Aragorn_iz_cool
05-31-2002, 09:38 PM
oh FOTR:o ) Then howabout wathing Aragorn and Legoles sing after Borimir's death. I bet Aragorn has a great singing voice.

Good choice, but Boromir dies in the first chapter of The Two Towers. Sorry to be nit-picky and all :)

Bilbo's party, I suppose. Everything is still happy.

i would like to be at the council of elrond to see if elrond really looked like Agent Smith :P ;)

What scene would I choose to be part of? I would want to be on the ship flying Aragorn's banner as it sails towards the Harlond.

By far the best single fight scene would have been
Gandalf vs the Balrog...It would have been awesome.

It is(in my humble opinion)an amazing and awe inspiring battle
which depicts the struggle between good and evil in a way that no other match up could.
On the one hand is the pure evil,dark,fiery..and powerfull Balrog.
On the other a small, but great old man who fearlessly faces this evil force...

Fire vsLightning,
Staff vs Flaming whip,
Elven sword vs Fiery Brand,
Power vs Power,
Good vs Evil.

It is a classic!!I would have loved to have watched the whole thing, the face off on Durins bridge, the swords clash, the fall into the abyss, the chase through the dark places, and up the stairs to the summit,to watch the battle rage anew on the peak ofZirakzigil..Ohh yes the Battle of the peak...
Thunder, lightning, smoke, vapour and ice falling like rain.
What a spectacle!!
And of course to see good triumph over evil and the mountainside break in the Balrogs fall..

Truly Inspiring!

(I would even pay Skysports' rediculous p.p.v. charges to watch this 'big fight')-

I would like to see the Last Alliance. I don't know if that counts, but Gandalf does tell Frodo about it in FotR...

I would want to be in Lorien with the fotr. That would be a treat.
(by the way i noticed that to, that Boromir dies in the second boo not the first. But i guess they wanted to make the movie more dramatic.) If it weren't enough already.

I would definately have to Bilbo's and Frodo's party. Everything is so happy, all the problems of the ring have not come yet, and the hobbits live in peace. They are such jolly people and have such good spirits, I wouldn't be able to revist an invitation to their party.

The Ringbearer
08-24-2002, 04:24 AM
I would have liked to see:

1. Frodo and Sam's reunion in Cirith Ungol

2.The Party( I noticed that in the book, it was only mentioned once or twice that it was Frodo's birthday  )

3.Frodo's "diversion" at Bree

4.Weathertop and the Ford

5. MOUNT DOOM!!!! That would have been SO COOL!

6. The Battle of the Bridge of Khazad-dum

7.I would like to steal a look over Sam and Frodo's shoulders when they looked in the mirror......;)

( Siricus, I think that Peter probably put Boromir's death in the 1st movie because he did not want to start off a movie with a character's death.)

katya
08-25-2002, 04:43 PM
oh my gosh there are a lot. personally i prefer the nice happy scenes. the party, etc. that would be cool. nothing scary though. its just too...scary. (balrog, anywhere near orcs, etc.)

The council of Elrond, so maybe after that i could sneek along and stay with them the entire time!

the party of Bilbo? maybe
The house of tom? possably
The Prancing Pony? i would like to hear frodo sing...
The councel of Elrond? to boring
The mountain (on top of it)? no, to cold
The mines of Moria? to dark
Whene they meet Galadriel? that would be fun!
The Breaking of the Fellowship? to sad!

I think that i would have to stick with Galadriel!

Telperion
08-31-2002, 11:44 AM
I would like to say something really exciting, like Moria, but I know that if I was really there I would be scared out of my wits and not enjoy it. So, I would say, the reunion of the fellowship in Ithillien. It's cowardly, I know, but I would rather have fun than be chopped to pieces by orcs.:D

The Ringbearer
09-01-2002, 02:52 AM
I would probably prefer that too, Telperion. The main reason I wanted to see all those creepy/scary ones is to awe friends when I get back home! :D Then again, they probably wouldn't believe me.......
