does anyone know if elves smoked at all?
i dunnoo why i was thnking of it, but in the middle of block class, BAM there it was, and it has been bugging me all day.

I have never seen a reference anywhere to an Elf smoking pipeweed. However, I have never seen a statement saying that they DIDN'T smoke, either--but I think you're safe assuming that they didn't. Smoking is a sloppy habit, and all the Elves I've ever met are very neat. :)

I doubt it...in the TTT I remember a reference made by Legolas to wine while at Isengard though. Gimli asked Merry and Pippin where they got the pipe weed, and Legolas said he was more interested in where they go the wine.

Yes, and a few pages later Legolas says something about how odd the hobbits, Strider & Gimli are for breathing smoke. So I think it's safe to assume the Elves didn't.

I think the lembas is just a big vitamin supplement. But I don't think Elves smoke (remember in TTT where they were all smoking and Legolas was lying there cloud watching and singing to himself- he seems to do that a lot.) But it is apparent that Elves drink- of course everyone does in ME. I have kind of a cool rendition of that scene in TTT:

Gimli: I can't believe it. Here we've come all this way, and you're just sitting here eating and drinking and chilling out and smoking. Hey, where'd you get the weed?

Legolas: I completely agree. I mean after all this way... But I think I'd rather know where they got that brew...
