There are giants mentioned in "The Hobbit" but what were they?
And how come they played no part in the "Lord Of The Rings"?
I am sure that they could of wiped out a few (thousand) Orcs.

My guess is, that they were trolls grown in humongous size. They were called 'stone giants', weren't they?

Please don't post one thread in two different forums. Odds are the same people visit both. I moved the other one into the Middle-earth forum as this topic covers both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings (as you apparently observed). The thread can be found here (http://entmoot.tolkientrail.com/showthread.php?threadid=3131).

... Though, come to think of it, webwizard will probably kill me for locking a thread here, The Hobbit needs the posts after all ...

Why can't the Middle Earth section close its giant discussion? The giants were only mentioned in the Hobbit, so they belong in this forum.

Well, because the topic is a two part question: (1)What were the Giants in the Hobbit? (2)Why weren't they in the Lord of the Rings? That covers both books, but it shouldn't be in both forums, so I moved one to Middle-earth and closed the other. I knew you wouldn't be happy about it, sorry. It just seemed the most logical thing to do.
