Frodo is standing by the cracks of doom, and claims the ring for his own. The Nazgul are going to go get him, and the ring. Gollum hits Sam in the head....

...and doesn't knock him out. Sam grabs him by the neck and throws him into the fire. The Nazgul take Frodo and the Ring.

Then what would have happened?

Well, if Frodo could not find the will to utilize the ring to order the Nazgul to let him go, they would have taken him right to Sauron, Sauron would have annihilated the army camped out at his front doorstep, then rolled out and swept up the rest of Middle-Earth. He would have set up his "foul theocracy" and all survivors would have to worship him.

He would have laid seige to Imladris and Lorien, and both places would have held out but would have been eventually destroyed. One real priority for him would have been to destroy Cirdan and the Grey Havens to trap as many Elves in Middle-Earth as possible. The Istari may have survived [assuming Gandalf would have been able to get away from the slaughter at the Morannon], the four remaining "true to the cause" may have shifted focus to foment rebellion in the East and South.

Saruman would have been dealt with quite severely, in due time, and Sauron would have built monuments to his greatness throughout all of Middle-Earth. At least that's my EIDRIORCQWSDAKLMEDDCWWTIWOATTOPWFIO supposition.

Thats seem quite feasible.

I always thought that having Gollum jump onto Frodo and for them both to topple into the craks of doom would have made an intresting end to the ring. Would Sam be able to copy with the fact that though the quest had succeded that his beloved master was gone forever? Interesting parrallels between Frodo and Borimer could be drawn.

Frodo later arrives at Minas Tirith and is welcomed by everyone. He reports the demise of the creature known as Gollum and the selfless act of Samwise. Frodo makes known that a great weight has been lifted from him but still all the events have left him weak, stretched out...he remains pale and is told that he has earned a place in the havens...

Arwen and Aragorn are wed. The ringbearers unite, one by one, moving to Lorien, to Rivendell, to the ports of Cirdan in the west..

Suddenly, Frodo's eyes turn... Bilbo is the first to notice...

An unearthly scream is heard and to the party by the sea's utter disbelief Frodo uncovers a dark ball from beneath his cloak, the skies turn dark and 9 dark figures cover the sky!

Ere the Morgul King be undone by fair maiden warrior in more glorious days, but alas! 'tis not the first of the nine but he who is served by the nine who now leads them!

Sauron shall have not so hastily declare victory to the rest of Middle Earth this time. The last of Cirdan's craft fade away in flames; never of their like to be seen again.

Indeed, never anything untouched by the Dark Lord shall go forth from Middle Earth again...

Meanwhile, in the undying lands....

Manwe: Damned the #$!$% Melkor, that's not in the script!

Melkor: Ha ha! Royal Flush, better luck next time:D

Manwe: Dad, he's cheating again!

Hmmm, intertesting turn of story there, aragorn, and although there were some parts which weren't exactly clear, good overall. Liked the line, "Dad, he's cheating again!"

thanks bropous,

I'll do a revision one of these days. On the other hand, here's a simpler version, with apologies to Mr bilbo Baggins and some anonymous elf:

...and he lived happily ever after
'til the end of his days
in the land of Mordor where shadows lie...:D

PS: my nick is Arathorn, unless you were really talking to aragorn.

Hmm...maybe Gandalf would have met the Nazgul in the air returing with the ring and tried to get it from them!
