how quick was he?

reading unfinshed tales it says that gandalf went from near the hornburg to isengard - a 100 miles - in bout 4 hours [if i remeber writely he says he left in the afternoon and arrived their at night = 4/5 hours]

and considering the quickest horses can do 30mph then im guessing he could do bout 45-55mph what does every
one think?

All I know was that Shadowfax was fast...

100 miles in four hrs. is 25 mph.!! therefore I suggest that SF did not tire as normal horses could not sustain that speed and length of time without stopping.

That was very logical of you, Spock.

He was not a normal horse, no. It might be mentioned also that Gandalf said that were the West Wind embodied it would be even as Shadowfax.

Shadowfax was VERY fast, and did not tire easily. Truly a great horse of Rohan.

Acording to " The Complete Guide to Middle-earth", by Robert Foster, shadowfax could travel for twelve hours straight before needing to stop for a rest.
