I have been booked for 5:30 Central (Daylight) Time on the Shane McBryde show on AM 710 WNTM-Mobile to talk about NATIONAL HOBBIT DAY!
You MAY be able to listen in...
www.broadcast.com/radio/talk/wntm/ (http://www.broadcast.com/radio/talk/wntm/)
I (and another guy who does commercials for the station and who also reads at Barnes & Noble) will get a few minutes to talk about reading at the bookstore.
Of course, we will also discuss Hobbits, and my ongoing reading of THE HOBBIT at the store! I'll bring the book and read a little bit of it, I'm sure!
As many of you know in the United States, September 22, Bilbo & Frodo's Birthday, is officially Hobbit Day!
I have found precious little on the internet about it, however! If any of you have some information about when Hobbit Day was made official, etc. please let me know FAST!

22 September is indeed the birthday of our favorite hobbits (at least they're a couple of my favorites) and we should celebrate! But really, technically, we missed their birthday already. Being a leap year, and going by Shire Reckoning, 22 Halimath (the actual birthday of the two) fell on 14 September this year.
So let's celebrate twice!!! Shire Reckoning and Gregorian!

If I'm not mistaken the hobitts used the months name we use now, the MEN used Halimath, Norui, Hitui, etc...

Halimath comes straight from the Shire Calendar of Appendix D.

In about three hours, I'll be at the studio waiting to talk HOBBITS!
I'm taking my camera, so I'll take a picture (it will last longer) and post it here in about five hours.
I can't wait!
Hope y'all can hear it!

Check out my Barebones Website for the pictures of my observance of National Hobbit Day USA!
Let me see if I can make this thing display an image or two...

Ben, I'm sorry I didn't get to plug tolkientrail.com, I really meant to. You always remember after you get away from it! I didn't even take my glasses off for the radio picture! But it was an enjoyable interview if y'all got to hear and the reading went off without a hitch.

Nifty pictures; sorry I couldn't hear it. I'm always amazed at how few people have read the Hobbit. I reminded one of my friends in German class that Friday was National Hobbit Day, and so he promptly shouted "happy hobbit day!" to everyone. The rest of the class looked like they thought he'd just sprouted horns or something. Now, granted, they usually do that, but still...

I do have a recording, but rendering it to RealAudio with my present setup is problematic.
I've got to see if the Sound Recorder settings will let me record anything longer than 60 seconds!

OK! As requested by Darth Tater, the radio interview and reading in streaming RealAudio.
If that doesn't work, try a link from one of the sites in my signature!
EDIT: Hmmm. Same old problem! Well, you can link to the interview from my sites!

Here's a pretty howdy-doo!
I go to all the trouble of promoting HOBBIT DAY, and then provide the audio on the internet, and does anyone so much as comment?
Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Oh sure! Call old Gil foul names (like "Yankee!") and make him endure long tedious debates but pay attention to his work?
Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Just let the little hobbit slave away, unappreciated!

Cheer up and take heart, I listened to your Hobbit Day broadcast just the other day. I greatly enjoyed it though I sometimes found the static in the back ground hard to take.

Gilthalion, where are you at? One of the Automobile dealerships ads on the radio station sounded really familiar to me.
I think the whole interview went really well in my opinion. You really gave a great description of the book, to draw people into reading it.
The reading went smoothly also.
