I have the audio clip of him chanting it. My lovely aunt sent it to me. Click here (http://www.salon.com/audio/fiction/2001/05/15/tolkien/). You can scroll down to 'related stories' to listen to the Altariello Nainië Lóriendessë.

I've noticed that a number of the poetry in lord of the rings is noted to have been chanted.

For example: Aragorns short version of the Lay of Leithan and Gimli's song

Interesting. Of course, maybe the prof was like me and can't sing. ;)

There are audio files out there of Tolkien singing, I hear he is pretty good, though he claimed that he couldn't sing. Anyhow Galadriel certainly sings her lament in the Lord of the Rings.

Also... Sauron chants.

He chanted a song of wizardry
of piercing, opening, of treachery

...

backwards and forwards swayed their song
reeling and foundering as ever more strong
the chanting swelled...

so does felagund, appearently.

I love Tolkiens Gollum impression.

Maybe that's what I was thinking about Inolo....that is a gem! *bows*

He also claimed at times, that he couldn't write ;) I'll keep searching for any more singing I can find...

This is amazing! I can't believe it's free. It really is him? Gollum sounds a little like Yoda in The Empire Strikes back (when Luke first meets him)
