I'm somewhat new to this site, so maybe this has been asked before.
I knew for a while about the Led Zeppelin lyrics (in the darkest depths of Mordor/ I met a girl so fair/ But Gollum, the evil one/ crept up and slipped away with her), but I never really tried to figure out what was meant by them. The other day I was thinking about the lyrics and now I wonder: Who is the "girl so fair?"
I don't recall any fair girls in the dark depths of Mordor, and I certainly don't recall Gollum slipping away with anyone. Can someone help me? Do these lyrics make any sense?

That song is complete and utter fan fiction, and rediculous fan fiction at that.

Oh, pooey Darth.

I've always thought the 'girl so fair' was a euphemism for the One Ring.

Nonsense, the ring is definately male! :p

I must disagree Darth, the ring is nice to look at but really evil inside, it separates you from everything you love, it leaves you empty inside and finally it leaves you and finds another bearer so it must be female.

Oh and I'm joking.

Well i am quite sure the ring is a girl. She wont take **** form anyone and she choses the people who think that they master her but realy she does as she pleases.
Definatly a female.

I am also pritty sure that Sauron is a woman aswell. Lets face it we have all had that peircing stare form a woman (my mother is master of this) that can tell i lie form a single bead of sweat on my forehead when she asks where i was last night.
"Waiting for a taxi, honest!" But she sees all and knows all!
Definatly a woman!

That's only for people that are easily intimidated. I've never been affected by the 'glare of death' everybody talks about.

well... the only she that gollum was devoted to was Shelob. i always thought of the ring as male myself, since it is endowed with the power of sauron and he is male. i have not really heard the song, though... so it could just be a random play on the character of Gollum and how nasty he is that he stole away the singer's girl.
