Rock on, appendices! l..l/ I found the information on Gondor especially helpful. Does anyone know if the info in the appendices is found in any other book? Maybe one of the HoME volumes?

There's more information about the LOTR appendices in HoME Vol 12 - The Peoples of Middle Earth - including material that didn't make it into the published LOTR.

I think the geneologies and history lines are GREAT. I LOVE trying to figure out how old a 28 year old hobbit is to us(13-14), or how old Frodo is considered to be in Hobbit years(35-36), and trying to figure out how closely related Merry and Frodo are is alot of FUN and not to mention difficult. But the story of Aragorn and Arwen and Merry And Pippin is just so sad I cry harder then when I read the Grey Havens.

Didn't you have Video Cameras in Lorien, Galadhriel? You could have just taped them for your personal use.

Hello I am new to entmoot,
anyway I have a special set were all the books are seperated into one book each(confusing aye) an example would be that war of the ring is it's own book instead of being combined with the return of the king.
Now that that is cleared up, I think the appendices were Great! I loved the stuff on the dwarves(my second favourite race)

Welcome! I hope you enjoy your stay here! You must have the Millenium edition, I have that too. That is a very good one to have. Not least because Tolkien thought the only natural division in the Lord of the Rings were the Books, not the Volumes. They were only published in Volumes to reduce cost anyway. Tolkien wanted the Lord of the Rings to be published undivided (and in connexion or conjunction with The Silmarillion, in fact).
What's your first favourite Race?

With out a doubt the Hobbits they make me laugh, especially in the scouring of the shire when pippin helps start the uprising.
Also Tom Bombadil(in a race of his own)
and the fox that says "4 hobbits, well there goes the neighbourhood"

"A fox passing through the wood on business of his own stopped several minutes and sniffed. "Hobbits!" he thought, "Well, what next? i have heard of strange doings in this land, but i have seldom heard of a hobbit sleeping out of doors under a tree. Three of them! There's something mighty queer behind this." He was quite right, but never found out any more about it"
- FotR, p.85 1992 ed.
love the quote.

The appendices are brilliant. I go back to them again and again, especially to check dates.
