If he had, wouldn't everyone just have taken their Ring of Power off? I know the Ring increased his power, but it failed its main pupose the first time (to control all wwho wore a Ring of Power).

If he won the elves would leave ME or be wiped out (they left anyways.) Who else could resist him? The draw of power would have been too much even for Gandalf.

If he had gotten it, ME would have been his. He would have been the incontested ruler.

He had much more experience then than when he had it. And the elves and men were not as strong as they were back then.
