Did a lot of innocents die drowing to death in the destruction of Belerland?

How long did the War Of Wrath take place?

I think I heard something about the Lake where the awoke Cuinven(sp?) was destroyed also. Is this true? Was it at the same time as The War of Wrath?

I brought up a similar topic a few months ago. I think we decided that the sea did not immediately rise but went slowly. This gave most of the Elves and Men time to reach higher ground, except for poor Maglor.
