You most certainly may talk about music here and thanks for asking. :p

The band I listen to the most is The Beatles. I like jazz and bluegrass a lot and listen to that if I'm not listening to The Beatles or Simon and Garfunkel, Beck, Matthew Sweet, David Byrne, Nancy Griffith, Cat Stevens......

anduin's musical tastes kick ass. :)

Me: depends on my mood. Everything from the Beatles to Simon & Garfunkel to Oscar Peterson to Ella Fitzgerald to Diana Krall to Captain Tractor to Spirit Of The West to Great Big Sea to Pink Floyd to Radiohead to Cake to a whole bunch of stuff from various musicals to Tchaikovskian/Wagnerian/Straussian programmatic Romantic orchestral music to film scores by the likes of John Williams to... etc. etc. etc. and so on and so forth until the end of time. And then some.

Lots of different artists, mostly in the rock category: Tori Amos, Green Day, Loreena McKennitt, Nirvana, Madonna, Foo Fighters, Matchbox 20, Sarah McLachlan, Lifehouse, REM, Incubus, Alanis Morissette, Enya, Dido, Goo Goo Dolls, Aretha Franklin, Train.... the list goes on and on.

I like some classical music, especially Bach, Beethoven, Debussy, and Tchaikovsky, but I've never really gone out of my way to listen to them. I've been mostly exposed to them b/c of piano lessons.

Have any of you ever heard of a group called Rapsody? (Not sure of my spelling!) They sing/write songs about Tolkien's books. My husband has been downloading some of thier stuff for me. Thier music puts me in mind of a cross between hardrock and classic Queen Rock-opera. It's pretty cool. Think they're from Europe.

Other than that I listen to a lot of James Taylor. I also sing along loudly, proudly, badly:eek: - me singing!! J.T.'s music is sweet and sad, honest and beautiful, it breaks my heart and makes me want to dance! REVERIE

Surprised that no one has mentioned Led Zeppelin yet. Their music is full of Tolkien allusions. 'The Battle of Evermore' is one of my all time favourites.

I like most songs that have a tune to them. This means rap is not my thing . . . I'm a big enya fan, too.

My taste in music differs amazingly. I like a whole mess of different types of music. But, over all, in my personal opinion, and yours too or else(just kidding), I love Linkin Park. What I like most about them is they don't just do one style and stick with that. They can do slow, soft music (I.E. My December) all the way up to loud, rock music (I.E. Crawling) or just go in the middle and do rap (I.E. In The End) I am completely obsessed with them and I have memorized "In The End", "Crawling", "One Step Closer", and "A Place For My Head". I also like Nickelback, Sum 41, Jagged Edge, Nas, D12, Creed, Bubba Sparx, Petey Pablo, P.O.D., Offspring, SOGGY BOTTOM BOYS! WOO!, System Of A Down, Adam Sandler(yes, he writes comedy songs), Wierd Al Yankovich, Blink 182, Adema, Alien Ant Farm, DMX, Fabolus, Dr. Dre, and did I mention I love Linkin Park?

*phew* i like so much music, mainly metal. top o the metal list is metallica, tool, pantera, slayer, fear factory, hed(pe), meshuggah, sevendust, system of a down, sepultura, kittie, ministry... oh man the list is endless! cog, kyser and redsands are some good aussie metal bands, but no-one will know who they are... :p

i also like some older stuff: soundgarden, dead kennedys, bauhaus, j. geils band, queen, zappa, bowie, zepplin, hendrix, armstrong, fitzgerald, billie holiday, etc.

i like pop music too: incubus, bjork, portishead, alicia keys, aaliyah, the spooks, gorillaz, fuel, garbage, no doubt, radiohead, smashing pumpkins, the cranberries.

i despise creed and i'm so annoyed that they're coming to australia, supported by sevendust, which means i have to pay $AU90 to see sevendust :(

i love a bit of classical, mainly rachmaninov, ravel, grieg, bach, tchaikovsky, wagner, beethoven, vivaldi, strauss there's such a great variety of classical music!

only music i really don't like (ie. can't tolerate) is trance and dance and that sort of music. surely a lot of people would say the same about metal, but it gives me a headache! :) :) :)

Yeah. I don't understand that stuff either. My first exposure to it was when someone asked me if I liked trance. I was like, "huh? what is that? some kind of drug? some kind of meditation exercise? wha?" So funny! :p So I got to listen to a sample. But all I could think of was, "umm...nothing's happening in this music." Maybe it works better if you are dancing.
Metal gives you a headache. Trance is just...boring.
But this is all just a matter of personal taste.

Otherwise, I listen to lots of stuff. Jazzy happy stuff. Sugary pop stuff. Slow sad stuff. My main requirements is that my favourite music has to either make me want to sing or want to dance.

I also listen to lots of canto/mando-pop. Eason Chan, Sammi Cheng, Faye Wong, stuff like that. and Jay Jou! :)
I also try some J-pop, but I don't know Japanese. So I'm going purely on the sound of the song.

i think its for pill poppers. never had one in my life, though.

oh yeah a lot of metal i can't stand. if you look at the bands i like thay're pretty main stream melodic metal bands. i just love the intensity of metal. probably why i like rachmaninov and wagner as well. :)

but yes it is all just a matter of personal taste :D

::boing:: MUSIC! My specialty....not really, just my biggest hobby, besides writing and reading and drawing and...well, yeah.

I love music, in almost all forms. Not a fan of most metal, though I do like some of it. Don't like rap, it doesn't really seem like music to me. Most music can hit a deep emotional spot with me though. In band when we play certain songs I can really get into it, and same with choir (choir songs have made me cry...but we sing some AWESOME peices). I'm not a huge fan of pop/dance, but I can handle most of it :D

My current music streak is 20's jazz, 40's jazz, Natalie Imbruglia and Classical. Whee!

What is trance?

I listen to oldies quite a bit on the radio -- Beatles, Beach Boys, and a bunch of similar groups. I also like some classical, such as In the Hall of the Mountain King, Ride of the Valkyries, and various parts of Vivaldi's Four Seasons, but I have to listen to each individual song before I know if I like it or not.
There are a bunch of other songs I like, but they don't fit into any particular genre (hymns, songs I or my parents have sung in choir, etc.). In general, I like songs with a lot of harmony, with different parts that I can sing.

Recently, I've been really into classic rock, expecially Queen, Styx, and Led Zeppelin. Awsome bands. I've been downloading a lot of Zeppelin today to try to find this song I heard on the radio. I finally found it, and I would like to say that Zeppelin's Black Dog is one of the most awsomest freaking great songs ever. :p What I like about Queen is their variety. Every song sounds so different. Bohemian Rhapsody is opera, Another One Bites the Dust is disco-ish, Fat Bottomed Girls is western, and Crazy Little Thing Called Love is like an Elvis song. Very talented. And for Styx, Mr Roboto is just so weird that I like it, and Lady is probably one of the best rock love ballads ever.
