How would these girls react to the Frodo running around, errr, ummm, unclad, after being rescued from the Barrows? :D

Wait, what do you mean they left out Bombadil? Did they need to shorten the story or something? I'm gonna go check out the website and see if there's anything else I should know about before I see the movie.

Welcome Miriel! Are you a fan of MÃ*riel Therindë or Tar-MÃ*riel of Númenórë?

You can't fit everything in the LR into six or even nine hours of filming of course, but Peter Jackson did not feel Tom Bombadil was an important character as far as the plot goes.

Well save for servant, friend and semi gaurdian but that's about it Easterlinge-I mean Frodo of the books not the movie Frodo- :). I think his eyes look faery like and unearthly, not much but enough to give him that "Hobbit look", and heaven knows he's got a boyish enough face. He will play a really good Frodo I am sure.
Hey Playgirl, if you're a newbie fan visit: http://www.elijahwood.com. You wont be dissapointed. ALthough he needs to update the website, but probably wont until January :P.
And if you want some pictures visit these: http://www.tolkienmovies.com, http://www.theonering.net, and http://lordoftheringsmovie.com. You might have to click around on the last two but you will find some pretty dang good pictures of the Hobbits and all. You will LOVE it(if you like pictures that is.)

THEY CUT BOMBADIL...THEY CUT THE WIGHT SCENE??! That's so sad! That is one of the best parts in the entire book.

But it had the naked scene in it...that was kind of gross. (And if they included it, it might be 'R' rated, which means I couldn't see it.) All right...I'll take my blessing with my curse... :(

Miriel, I also like the name. Tar-MÃ*riel particularly has my interest, as a person. I have a sort of private obsession with the Land of Gift. It means 'Jewel-woman' (MÃ*riel does), according to Tolkienian linguist Helge Fauskanger (who's name no one pronounces right ;) ). Thank Xanthyz for the links, it's his website. :)

"He does have nice eyes"

I hadn't noticed, but appearently even gandalf thought so. He described frodo as 'fairer than most with a cleft on his chin and bright eyes' Or something like that. It was in the chapter 'the stilted pony'

'but he's kinda young and skinny. Frodo was supposed to be fifty years old when he set out on the quest. I expected him to look a little more ... mature. '

Frodo was fifty, but he didn't look a day over thirty-three. effect of the ring. So eligah wood looks about right, although I'll agree with you hat he's a bit skinny. After all, frodo called himself flabby when starting out on his journey.

But wayfarer maybe you have'nt realized that Frodo would lose weight as he walked on so by the time Bucklebury ferry came up, ELIJAH Wood'd be a perfect Frodo, which he is. Those blue eyes and that smile ooooooooo, but then he has got Frodos attitude and characteritics. He is in other words perfect for the role.

No offense taken. Considering lots of girls these days are trying to be mirror images of Britney Spears(and no I dont mean the singing) I'd rather be a guy, but considering I'm a girl I just have to content myself with being who I am and try to live in both worlds. Be a tomboy but have the full advantage of wearing makeup, wearing dresses, and posting my opinions of Elijah Wood with fellow fans ;)

Reverie
10-23-2001, 03:32 PM
Miriel, the reason Frodo doesn't look "more...mature" is because he's had the ring since he was 33. :)

Comic Book Guy
10-23-2001, 05:47 PM
To elborate on Reverie's post, Frodo recieved the ring on his 33rd birthday, the Hobbit's coming of age. Now the hobbit age of 33 is about the of human age 18. The bearer of the ring does not age, nor does he die of old age either, he becomes frozen in time so to speak. So that means that Frodo doesn't look a day over 33.

Considering this, shouldn't Ian Holm look a lot younger?

Miriel Stormrider
10-23-2001, 10:23 PM
No. He hadn't had the Ring for a while, so his age was catching up to him. His favorite activities in Rivendell were eating (of course) and rhyming/dreaming by the fire. In other words, he was quite old.

Sam, I completely understand. I get a kick out of the fact that I can wear (almost) anything guys can, then I can change to a dress and make-up.:D

Niphredoodah
10-29-2001, 10:29 AM
Miriel, you should watch "The Ice Storm". He plays a chap with some sterling Frodonian qualities in that. Otherworldly, honourable, decent and vulnerable.

In "The Faculty" he plays someone very courageous who is sometimes wrongly supposed to be a weakling.

So playing Frodo is kind of his birthright, in a way ...

samwise of the shire
10-29-2001, 04:23 PM
I want to see The Faculty, but it's rated R and I have to wait for 4 more years before I can watch it:p :(
Anyway he does'nt NEED to play someone who's humble or anything to prove he'd be a good Frodo, from what I've read he's Frodo all the way.

Elijah Wood looks different then the other hot movie stars, I mean one look at him and it's like you KNOW that he's different, I dunno if it's his eyes(which have a type of faerylikness about them)or if it's the smile but something is there that just grabs your attention, and the cool thing is is that he does'nt MEAN to grab attention, he does'nt want the publicity or anything like that he just loves acting, and that is really cool.

The only time we ban people without discussing it first is if they blatenly break the rules, ie. going to every forum and posting porn.

Sometimes threads just ramble, and every thread doesn't have to be poignant.

Any hoo I first saw Eligh Wood on the cover of a mag and he looked so gorge i had to open it and look to see who this god on a stick was! It was then i found out he was in LOTR! The posters of him holding the ring and it is all dark aren't very good. I have assured all my friends however that he is a cutie and they are all coming with me to see the movie when I go. I am also having fun winding up my friend who happens to adore LOTR and is a boy by saying this is the only reason I want to see the movie. Of corce i am joking. My god - how did I miss such a huge thread?
Good luck, probably.

A few comments:

- I agree - if we talked about women like you girls talk about the men we'd be labelled sexist shallow pigs
- Play girl / samwise - you DO know the relevance of play girl's avatar? Like Wayfarer, I find it amusing :) Popular culture gets so popular it loses it's meaning
- Women in FotR - I don't even count Arwen. She looks like a pig-dog to me
- Wayfarer - I'm a little concerned over your definition of women :)

What's the relevance? Or do I not want to know?

Try going to playboy.com.
I've not made it a URL cos I don't want people to just click on it.
Bear in mind that if you are young (under 18) don't look.
If you are easily offended, don't look.
If you are a teenage american boy using AOL, you'll have already looked :)

If you don't want to go, then the symbol is that of Playboy - a soft-porn magazine and video company.

So now - do Play-girl and Sam know the meaning? My guesses are that Play-girl does (cos of her name) and Sam probably doesn't cos she's too young :)

Gerbil, just because I'm 14 and just becuse I am homeschooled doesn't mean I'm totally dense and so protected I think that babies come from cabbage patches or storks. I'm smart enough and unprotected enough to know what Playwhatsit is. :)

Well...ungoliant WAS female...;) The thing is, in relation to the males in LOTR, females had practically nothing! The three with the longest appearances were goldberry, eowyn and rosie. Oh, and shelob/ungoliant. Heh.
Get away from Sam. He is mine. :)

Does my avatar picture look like a pig to you? :p
Do they have small furry pigs that go *squeak* in your part of the world? :)

Hey Sam, I wasn't saying you are dense, simply that it was (to me) a reasonable assumption that a young girl would not necessarily have stumbled across a particular brand of soft porn.
In fact, I was kind of hoping you girls wouldn't know. Kids today sheesh.

And dare I ask why some of you youngsters are homeschooled? We don't really have that over here, so I don't know why it happens.

You know, genetic manipulation and cloning these day. For all I know you could be an genetically engineered superintelligent lizard with wings escaped from a lab hiding somewhere in the sewers with a laptop...

Regarding my list...

That entire list was sarcastic in origin. Seriously. I left out the barbs when I brought it over to this forum.

Regarding the playboy bunny...
I still find that amusing. But I hope there aren't any girls here who would wear clothing with the logo of a porn company.

actually wayfarer, one of my friends (a fellow Tolkien addict, although not a mooter) recently bought a T-shirt with the playboy bunny and the words "Kiss Me!"

make what you will of that :)

Well Gerbil I'm homeschooled because my parents think that it's THEIR responsibility to teach me and my siblings and NOT the governments and if you think about it it IS the parents responsiblity. I would rather be taught at home than at Public School because I'm so different from everyone else at the school I WOULD go to. Hope that answered a question or two.
GIRL?!You could say YOUNG WOMEN! Jeez. Just Kidding. *Punches Gerbil in the shoulder friendlily*

Hay Sam is mine!
and to just diviate from topic for a second I do actually have a top with the play boy bunny on it and i have a top that says "kiss my ass", and one with hand prints over my .., well you know, and i have an ace hooded top with the initials of French Conection United Kindom on it which is really cool! Do you get them outside the UK though I think they would just be offensive anywhere else. Us brits have a warped sense of humour.

Okay, this is gonna sound really weird compared to my previous messages in this thread, but I no longer am head-over-heels in love with Elijah Wood or Frodo. I'll still acknowledge that he's cute, but no more than that. Cool article tano! The "Cuntebago" bit had me rolling on the floor.
