I have to say Gladiator. But I havenĀ“t seen enough movies to actually say if it is the best movie of this year so far.

Here's a list of all the 2000 movies I've seen so far, with a quickie review under each one:
1. The Patriot
I couldn't care less about the historical inaccuracies or the supposed "whitewashing", because I thought this was a very entertaining epic, with great acting from Gibson, Ledger & co. and another great score from John Williams.
2. Chicken Run
Hilarious and charming claymation flick.
3. X-Men
Best comic book adaptation since Tim Burton's Batman.
4. Tie: Shangai Noon/ Mission: Impossible 2
Noon was funny as heck; M:I 2 was another cool John Woo action flick.
5. Dinosaur
Visually stunning, emotionally dissapointing. A poor man's Tarzan, IMHO.

1. X-Men
2. Titan A.E.
3. Gladiator
4. U-571
5. Battlefield Earth (But not because it was good, worst movie I ever saw, but I had a LOT of FUN watching it as my friends and I spent a good two hours doing some of the best heckling of our lives.)

Having only seen one movie this year, X-Men, I'd say it has to be my favorite by default.

Here's a new Top 10 from the Parrot himself.
A very approximate ranking so far, as of this writing... also keeping in mind that the slew of high-quality releases around November-ish will probably change this list dramatically. A lot of the ones near the bottom are films I only really consider slightly on the good side.
The "excellent-classic" range:
1. Gladiator
2. Chicken Run
3. The Patriot
4. Almost Famous
The "pretty good-very good" range:
5. U-571
6. Shanghai Noon
7. The Art Of War
The "okay-enjoyable" range:
8. X-Men
9. Gone in Sixty Seconds
10. Dinosaur
By the end of the year I surely hope the whole list will be dominated by the "excellent-classic" range. Hopefully.
