Are Ents the strongest things in Middle Earth? I suppose Dragons and Balrogs would contend but I think in outright terms of physical strength, the Ents are supreme.
No where else in his legendarium does Tolkien write so passionately about physical force as he does describing the power of the Ents in tearing down Isengard. He is very vivid in describing their hands tearing up stone like it was breadcrust and throwing slabs of stone and iron posts hundreds of feet in the air. The sound of them was breaking stone. I think his focus on their physical power in his writing is a significant fact. He was very purposeful in the way he wrote.
