From the Yorkshire Evening Post (http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news/latest-news/top-stories/video-tolkien-s-drinking-ditty-is-lord-of-the-sings-1-7165937). (Note the white rose on the masthead.)
I have read little about E.V. Gordon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E._V._Gordon) and his influence on Tolkien as far as I know. There is a book, Songs for the Philologists (http://www.tolkienlibrary.com/reviews/songsforthephilologists.htm), to which Tolkien and Gordon contributed: some of them must have had echoes in LotR and Silmarillion.
