Yes - sad to hear.
Reminds me of a Star Trek computer game I had. The first time I did something wrong, Spock dies - and this message comes up:
* SPOCK IS DEAD - GAME OVER! *

Oh god, I think I remember that game.
I was very sad to hear this; the orginal Star Trek series was my introduction to SF and I never really left after that. I owe a lot of that to Spock and Leonard Nimoy's portrayal of him.
