has anyone here read David Eddings' series? They begun in Pawn of Prophecy, followed by 10 others... I'd advise y'all to read them...

I´ve read a lot of Eddings´ books. I enjoyed them, especially his sense of humour. In my opinion his early books are the best.

I`ve read all of Eddings` books, including his new publication, The Redemption of Althalus. The Belgariad is by far his best effort.
I think he is pretty limited as an author. He can construct a decent story which will hold one`s attention, but the dialogue in his books is very poor, his attempts at humour are more suited to a low quality sitcom and his female characters are irritating.
He also has a very low opinion of JRR`s work, need I say more?

Eddings' books (the Belgariad) are fun and easy to read but you can stop at the first one if you are looking for refreshing dialogue. After Pawn of Prophecy Eddings just reuses the same tired lines over and over ad nauseum. And since the author uses dialogue more than action to drive the story, you'll get tired of it fast. Exhausted even.
As with Brooks and Shanarra, but even more so, Eddings' book are written at about an 8th grade level (no offense to 8th graders - but you'll find them lacking by your Senior year).
RECOMMENDATION: Read these books when you want some light, easy reading.

I agree with the last post. The Belgariad is the best serie, then they gets worser. The Belgariad was one of the first fantasy series I read (after Tolkien). The best parts are some of the humour and Belgarath/Polgara.

I've read the Belgariad and the Malloreon both. I must say, I must be quite mad, because I just loved them! They are among my favorite fantasy series, probably ranking above DragonLance and FR; In fact, I think they're my third favorite (First being LotR and second being a rather obscure series that I expect nobody's heard of).
