I don't really have any favorite fantasy artists. I've seen Whelan's art on the covers of the Otherland books. They were nicely done, but I wouldn't want them hanging on my walls or anything :P

Giger, Wheelan and Valliejo for the obvious reasons. Nasmith and Howe for their vivid realism. Lee for his evocative impressionism.

Drew Struzan for his stellar use of chiarascuro.
Alan Lee for his style and power. He tells a story with each brush stroke.
And I really like Tolkien's own illustrations in The Hobbit because of his use of color. Some of them almost look like stained-glass.

Being a J.R.R.T. fan, I have to say I like Allan Lee or John Howe's works. Darrel Sweet did a wonderful rendition of The Grey Havens.
One cover artist I find immediately recognizable is Jody A. Lee.

Some of the artists named above, drew much of their inspiration from FRANK FRAZETTA, who was (is?) the greatest!

Michael Whelan and Darrel Sweet. The Brothers Hildebrandt are good. I like their sci-fi stuff too. They did a lot of work with Star Wars, as did Dave Dorman who is excellent.

The Hildebrandts are great. They did the original "Sword of Shannara" cover, I think. I'm keen on Boris Vallejo's work. He makes the fantastic seem so realistic! Keith Parkinson is excellent, and I also like Fred Fields, Clyde Caldwell, and Ciruelo Cabral.

I really like Inger Edelfedlt(She's the lady who made that totally awsome picture of Legolas drawing a bow)all the detail she puts into those pictures are so cool.I also like Alan Lee's work(has anyone seen"The Moons Revenge"by Joan Aiken oh my heck his sea monster looks like it's got light on it)he's so cool and he also is one of the Conseptual artists in the LOTR movies(you can tell). I've got alot of favorite artists Nasmith("Green hill country" is cool-Sam has his "hat"on his head), Howe(Sam and Shelob rocks)and Michal Herring's cool too.

Vallejo, Parkinson, Clyde Caldwell, and the Hildebrandts are among my favorite fantasy artists. Haven't seen much of Caldwell's covers lately. Is he still doing Forgotten Realms covers?
