Horror Movies

Does anyone watch horror movies anymore? I love them.

I just watched "The Wizard of Gore" (2007) which is an AMAZING psychological thriller. It is all about mind control.

Anyone else?

I'm not a fan, but I saw a preview (in front of Twilight [I went for the laughs]) for a movie called "The Unborn" -- presumably coming out in the near future -- that looked ACTUALLY scary. I had to look away and wait for it to end. Though maybe that speaks more to my desire not to be scared out of my wits and low tolerance for such things, than the actual scare factor of the film.

I don't watch horror very often, but I do love zombie movies. 28 Days Later (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0289043/) was fantastic. It's one of my favourite movies.

The sequel, 28 Weeks Later, was pretty good. But it would have been great if it weren't for those stupid, stupid kids. I was hoping they would fall in an open manhole and die already. :mad:

But the first one. I love it. :)

I do like a good horror movie, but I haven't watched one in so long, I can't really remember the best ones. :(

Depends how you define "horror movie".

Most people think of slasher movies (Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare, etc.) as classic horror movies. And while they are all fine and good and have their place I prefer flicks like Exorcist and Psycho and The Shining for real dead on scare factor. Of course the Romero movies have a special place too. Especially Dawn of the Dead. But do you call movies like Alien and Jaws part of the horror genre? If so they would go high on the list simply because they are such good films (and Poltergeist!). Even Pet Cemetary is worth a watch. But my favorites are the first Omen movie and of maybe Sixth Sense. And maybe Silence of the Lambs. Not sure if they are horrors per se but they sure grip you and keep you on the edge of your seat. Then theres more disturbing stuff but thats probably not what you mean here.

What doesn’t really do much for me are the more modern generation of “horror” films like all the Saws and what not where it seems its just an excuse to show gruesome agonizing things happening to people simply for the gross out factor without any real story or any of the campy cheesy comedy factor of old school slasher flicks. I love a really fun bad horror flick, especially the low budget ones that are worth a drunken laugh but the ones these days seem to take themselves too seriously I think, despite being so one dimensional.

Yep, love the Living Dead.

28 Weeks later was a major disappointment- the set-up and first half were great; then they decided to kill off the only good actress and turn the only good actor into a mindless Infected.

Would love to see a big-budget flick based on Z-Day- how an actual widespread outbreak would be handled.
"Land of the Dead" was also disappointing that way.

IRex: I also have a special love for sci-fi horror, which is how I would characterize Event Horizon and the Alien movies (all of which I love).

I've seen Event Horizon too many times. Sam Neil can be creepy as all get out when he wants to. :eek:

I have to say that for the most part, I can't stand horror movies. I don't mean I don't like them. I mean I can't stand them. I always leave after the first "jump" scene.

I agree with Nurvingiel. Scifi horror I love! Alien is a top notch film.

My brother really liked Ginger Snaps. I have to say, splatter flicks don't really do it for me; I want something a bit more psychological, a horror that reaches deeper than just walking on entrails like sausages. A result of that is that I'm not a big fan of werewolf movies as a whole, since they tend to just be tear-things-to-bits splatter flicks.

One noteworthy exception that I really liked was Wolf, with Jack Nicholson and Michelle Pfeiffer. That's a good movie. :cool:

i love horror movies!!! even though i cant wait horror movies by myself...i still enjoy getting scared and being a little wuss after haha but yea i would say a lot of people still watch some horror movies..i think its all what depends on the whole team andhow bad tehy want to win the game

28 days is a good one. I didn't really feel the second film though, it wasn't gripping like the first on has been.

I love and always will love a good horror show. Ill list some of my all time favorites:

House of 1000 Corpses, Rosemary's Baby, (and the book too, I have read it more than any other novel ever written.) The Shining, The Excorsist,

I love the old Dracula shows, Nosferatu, and all the terrible ones from the 80's. Love Hitchcock, Great thrilling sequences. Its Halloween all year at my house! ;)
