So, does anybody still play the games? Or watch the crappy anime?

Blearg, no.
I remember them being all the rage when I was in grade school though. Is that show still going? I'dve thought that Ash had caught his ...365?...pokeman by now?

Yep, still going. And it's 490 Pokemon now. And he's caught less then 100.
Hehe, I used to watch it when it first came to the Netherlands. That's quite a while ago though. 6 years or so?

Since this is (was?) a TV show and a game, I think this thread belongs in the Entertainment forum. :)
I used to watch this show sometimes. The art is a little simplistic but I like the characters. My favourite aspect of the show is how Ash lets Pikachu just be himself. I always thought the message of acceptance was nice to see on TV.

Fair enough!
It still is a TV show. Although it's crap now compaired to when it first aired.

I remember watching it a while, just because I always loved watching cartoons and was at the moment rather starved for some decently drawn ones, which tells you how poor the offering was. It gets old fast, though. And the whole catching animals to have them fight one another never quite sat easily with me. Dunno if I was reading too much into it...

It's possible that you're older now. ;)
From where I sit, it hasn't changed much. :D

I love pokemon! :D I haven't had time to watch it in ages, but it's fun to watch while you're doing homework or something... I mean I wouldn't sit down to watch it just for the experience of watching it, but I always find the episodes amusing and it's fun/relaxing to watch for a minute or two if you get frustrated with what you're doing :).
Plus I love Pikachu :).

Dude, I still remember my very first pokemon card. It was a very special moment. I was in elementary school, and my older brother and sister (four and six years older), had pokemon cards. I badly wanted one, cause everyone did. I guess I annoyed my brother so much into giving me one of his ponita (is that how you spell it? I cant remember. The white horse with the firey tail) card. I was so happy.

Then of course you get into the philosophical debate: must one REALLY "catch 'em all" to be a successful pokemaster? When do you know that you have caught all of them, and what do you do with said pokemon once each and every one has been caught?
Also how do you define the success of a pokemaster? Is it to actually become a "master" of pokemon, in which case you'll succeed so long as you've caught at least one. Or is there a quality over quantity standard? Is winning every battle with a few pokemon superior to winning a few battles with many pokemon?
Oh, pokemon, you inspire such deep thought...
:p
Personally, I'd just catch a pikachu and an eeve and tell the other pokemon they can go take a hike ^_^. For reelz--cutest pokemon EVER. I wouldn't even battle with 'em, I'd just keep them as pets and lurv them into little tiny bits and pieces.

Being a Pokemon master is all about heart, not about whether you've caught 'em all. That's just for marketing! I would battle my sweet little Pokemons though. I think that as long as you take good care of them, they enjoy battling. Like humans like struggling to win at sports and academics and so on. And then at the end of the day I would love and cuddle them to pieces. :) I think I would specialize in cute, snuggly types. I have a thing for Raichuu, Jigglypuff, and Vulpix. However, my favorite favorite of them all is Mew. :) I suppose I wouldn't mind having just one, but it would be difficult to become a gym leader or something with only one. It puts you at a disadvantage. My dream, however, is beating the elite four with a single level 100 Clefairy.
Lots of cute ones :D
I would love to start a farm with all of them though. Or be a sister Joy. At least Pokemon never bleed or die :p
I can be a nurse in that case!
Tessar

Yes, but which sister Joy? O.o Or does it really matter? I suspect that Sister Joy is actually a single, transdimensional being that exists in all pokecenters, at all times, at once.
And you are probably right too ;)
Or maybe an Agent Jenny. At least then I wouldn't have to walk around in a pink outfit.
I would have to adapt the silly skirt though.

Heheh, that's what I liked most about the cartoon, there were such a large number of critters and some of them were really cute of cool concepts. I remember Squirtle was my favourite.
Dang, I think I still have a drawing somewhere of my own pokemon-design, an armoured cat of a sort. I wonder where that went...

eeve was always my favorite, I thought she(?) was the cutest thing ever in the world, and charmander of course :p
I could do the Charmander voice... my sister did the voice of some other Pokemon rather well :o

It should be easy enough if you do the Missingno trick.
katya

I think that would kind of take away from the feeling of accomplishment. And anyway, doesn't using Missingno make for Pokemon that are less strong than naturally leveled ones? Still quite strong, of course. Not to say I've never used Missingno. ;)

You know, I never actually learned how to duel with Pokemon, I just collected the cards.

I want to be the very best
Like no one ever was
To catch them is my real test
To train them is my cause (oooh)
I will travel across the land
Searchin' far and wide
Each Pokemon to understand
The power that's inside! (Power inside!)
Pokemon!
It's you and me.
I know it's my destiny!
Pokemon!
Ooh you're my best friend
In a world we must defend!
Pokemon!
A heart so true
Our courage will pull us through
You teach me and I'll teach you
Pokemon!
(Gotta catch 'em) Gotta catch 'em Gotta catch 'em all!
I have never played Pokemon or watched the [censored] TV show. And yet, I can name you at least 20 of them including evolutions, AND sing the TV show theme.
Having a nerdy boyfriend is sometimes taxing.

I did all of it- played the games, watched the TV show, collected cards. I didn't have anyone to play against in the card game though. But I watch the TV show religiously (in fact I went to the early mass so I could stay home and watch it), and more than anything I was obsessed with the games.

Hahaha! That song brings back so many memories. I remember when the movie came out, my friend and I memorized the entire song just so that we could sing it when it came on in the movie. We were so disappointed when the song never played -.-
Wahaha, that's the funniest story! :D
Awww, now I feel a bit bad about laughing. :o

haha, I'm glad that you found it entertaining. I was in elementary school when it came out, so my friend and I would be singing the song to each other until we had it completely memorized, so being as young as we were, when we were sitting in the theater ready for the song to come on, and it never did, I just never forgot about it, I guess it struck me that hard. Wounded for life because that song never came on. hahaha, it is a rather funny story. I have another funny pokemon story too :)

Wow... I wasted much of my life on Pokemon as a kid.
Pokemon was popular 4th-6th grade for me. I would say it's peak of popularity was my 5th grade year - 1998-1999. Do kids still like it? wow. It's 10 years later now!
150 pokemon back then...(plus a couple extras like mew). Pokemom blue and red....those were the games to have and play at recess. Both exactly the same and the colors meant nothing - except there were minor differences in the pokemon in each game.
To get all 150, you had to either have both and trade with yourself or trade pokemon with friends who had the other version (via link cables).
And you could battle with friends... fun. Then yellow came out when I was in the 6th grade...pikachu followed you around. lol.
I think I was pikachu for halloween 1999 (6th grade). I looked so ridiculous - I was way too big for the costume. In my defense - it was a free costume. I won it in a contest.
I must have wasted at least 100 hours of my life on those games......... sold them all so I could never play them again..... kind of regret that now, but it worked.
Yup, played the card game too in those grades... I have a box in my closet at home with like 200+ cards.

Wow. I collected the cards as well, but I never managed to collect all of the original 150 cards.
Plus, I have at least one game from each generation (with Gold and Silver being my apsolute favorites).
I never was that big a fan of the anime - sure, I watched it when I could, but I didn't complain when I missed an episode. And it's just getting worse and worse as the years go on.

Oh Nurv, you're turning into an old hippy... okay my turn to admit to having so many furry Pikachus I've actually lost count, though I can see 5 from here and I know there is another in the truck outside. And a talking money box that pikas when you shove pound coins into his medulla oblongata.

Anyone going to get Black or White? Probably not huh. I'm not, not right away at least. If anything I'll be working on playing through Sapphire and then one of the other ones so I can fill out the National Pokedex.
I've changed my mind a little bit about what kind of gym leader I would be. I think my specialty would be Psychic types because gym leaders who use all cute pokemon irritate me (i.e. Whitney). But I would still use other types too like Red and Blue do. Mew is still my favorite, and Raichuu, and my new other favorite is Abra. I don't know what it is about Abra but he is just so cute. I refuse to evolve him into Kadabra even though Abra is pretty much useless in battle. (Well, with good EV training and some TM moves like Psychic he's ok, but still weak compared to other pkmn).
[I was actually looking for a thread about sharing one certain song you're into at the moment and found this one instead, couldn't resist giving it a bump. :)]
