I did a search and didn't find anything so I thought I'd strat a thread on Stephanie Meyer.

Has any one read any of her books? I just finished Twilight and loved it.

It's a series of currently three books about a teenager who moves to a small town in Washington called Forks to live with her dad and ends up falling for a vampire.

For those of you not familar with her, the books are titled:

1. Twilight
2. New Moon
3. Eclipse
4. Breaking DawnComing in August

If you have read any of her stuff tell us what you think.

Out of curiosity and a desire to read something mindless and quick, I got through Twilight and New Moon in a few days, but about 50 pages into Eclipse I thought to myself, "What am I reading?" and stopped.

Though, I've seen the trailers and Twilight seems oddly more suited to the film form than book. Maybe in the movie, much of the repetitive "I love him he is my life does he love me or doesn't he?" of Bella and Edward's "I could kill you at any moment but I won't because you smell so delicious" shtick will be pared down.

Sorry to hear you quit the series, Goldberry. You might want to try The Host, it's geared to the adult audiance.

frodomerryandaragornrock,Freeflying, how are you guys doing on your books.

I'm in the process of reading Breaking Dawn. Good stuff

I haven't read any of her books, but isn't there a major tiff going on on the 'net about her latest book?

I think there is, but I really haven't heard much of it. I'm pretty sure I know what its about, though

Well, I just started reading Twilight the day before yesterday, and I am finished with it. I am about to start Eclipse (in a few minutes actually). I just can't seem to put the damn thing down! The book has a balanced flow to it, it just seems like it will never end, like I have to keep reading or I will miss out on something big....

I noticed the book Twilight when it first came out. I just thought of it as the book with the bright red apple on it that everyone was reading. I honestly had no interest reading a book about...vampires. Then I heard that it was going to be made into a film, and one thing about me is, I cant stand to see a movie that has came from a book, without reading the book. So I thought to myself that I would pick it up before the movie came out. Over the summer, I attened this science and math program called GEMS with other kids my age (7th grade +) [Im a junior]. All of these kids were just absolutely raving about it. I heard from critics that it was the "Next Harry Potter" (which I still think is untrue, but anyway). Now I knew that I had to read it.

I bought the book after GEMS, and left it sitting around. I decided to read Harry Potter instead (for about the...oh i dont know...ten thousandth time). When I finished it, I had no other book to read, and I cant stand going without a book for a short period of time. I went downstairs, picked up Twilight, and that was about all she wrote. I never put it down. Page after page was just better and better. I cant wait to finish the series, and I hope that the movies wont destroy the books, like most senarios.

I had a friend rave about this series, before I finally broke down and read it. Glad I did.

She was writing a book called Midnight Sun, from Edward's point of view, but it leaked onto the internet :( sheck out her website www.stepheniemeyer.com for details on all her books and to read the partial draft of Midnight Sun (she was pretty ticked when it leaked, so she posted part of it on her site so her fans wouldn't look for the leaked copy.)

shesabrandybuck

Yeah, i was on her website not too long ago and found all of that out. I was so angry. Hopefully she will get over it and take another stab at it ;)

These books are interesting. Didn't think I'd like them at first, but I couldn't put them down.

The more I read, the less I like Bella and Edward, or Jacob for that matter. Too much of an annoying, unrealistic teen romance.

Jasper, though. . .*huggles him*

His romance is so sweet. . .definitely my favorite character, and perhaps one of the most complex. . .and over looked.

shesabrandybuck
09-22-2008, 03:10 PM
I agree, Jasper is over looked. Alice is my favorite character.

Ugh I HATE Bella, I honestly cannot stand her. I liked her in the first book, but our relationship went downhill after that.

Curufin
09-22-2008, 03:12 PM
I like Alice too. :) I like Jasper better. (<3 <3 <3 <3) But Alice can't be all bad if he adores her so much. ;) He's much more interesting than Edward or Bella. ;)

shesabrandybuck
09-22-2008, 03:17 PM
Edward only annoys me because he loves Bella. She has flipping OCD and needs to get over it. Ugh, I just wanted to slap her in the second book. Its like, "get over yourself, dude. There are other flipping fish in the sea"

I loved loved loved how Jasper and Alice came together. How like Alice knew exactly what was coming for her, and she waited for him in that restaurant. Shes just so cheery and sweet. They truely are perfect for each other.

Curufin
09-22-2008, 03:20 PM
They are. :) I love it. I just want to huggle him whenever he's in a scene. He's so tortured and it's so hard for the poor guy to even sit at school, and yet he does it all for love. How adorable. ;)

shesabrandybuck
09-22-2008, 03:27 PM
Aw, it really is. I really havent given him much thought. I was always so busy being inlove with Jacob until the last book.......

Curufin
09-22-2008, 03:41 PM
*sigh* Poor, overlooked Jasper. ;)

shesabrandybuck
09-22-2008, 03:47 PM
Do you like the guy who is going to play him in the movies?

Curufin
09-22-2008, 10:41 PM
So far, yes. He looks right to me, although I wish he'd use his Texas accent more. ;)

shesabrandybuck
09-23-2008, 04:45 PM
Hahaha! I havent really looked at the person who is playing Jasper...
I have dial-up, can you post a picture?

Curufin
09-23-2008, 05:28 PM
Sure. Well, actually, here's a pic of all the Cullens (except Carlisle and Esme).

http://www.collider.com/uploads/imageGallery/Twilight/twilight_movie_image_group_shot.jpg

Jasper's behind Rosalie. :)

(from left - Alice, Emmett, Bella, Edward, Rosalie, Jasper)

shesabrandybuck
09-23-2008, 05:42 PM
Thanks! yes, I can figure which one is which, silly. Im not particularly keen on the Emmett/Rosalie picks, but theres not much I can do. i guess i have to see them in actionnnn

Curufin
09-23-2008, 05:44 PM
Jasper looks right to me. He looks kind of. . .well, uncomfortable, and he's literally as far away from Bella as you can get in that picture. :)

I like Emmett. Rosalie. . . well, I'll have to see the movie. ;)

And I didn't post the names for you - I know you can tell them apart! :p

shesabrandybuck
09-23-2008, 05:52 PM
Haha, oh! I see now. I dont like Emmett's hair, but I like the way he is built.

I LOVE the chick who is playing Alice, my image of her is just like the girl who is playing her.

Curufin

http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z168/diva_003/movie_cullens1.jpg

And there they all are. . .before they decided to let Jasper have his curls. ;) The curls look far better than the straightness.

My opinions:

Emmett: looks perfect. I always thought of him as a 'football player jock' sort as I was reading the book anyway.

Rosalie: Well, casting the prettiest girl on earth would be difficult to do no matter what. But a lot of being beautiful is in your carriage and demeanor, which wouldn't come across in a still picture. So I'm holding judgment.

Esme: Very 'mom-like' but perhaps a little too old? She looks in her 30s there. At least.

Edward: Honestly, I think Edward looks perfect. The same look that made him perfect for noble, honorable Cedric is going to make him perfect for noble, honorable Edward. :)

Carlisle: Perfect. When I first saw his picture, he almost exactly matched the picture I had in my mind of him after reading the books.

Alice: She looks alright. Like Rosalie, I'll have to see her act.

Jasper: I think he looks great. Even in these pictures he looks stand-offish and uncomfortable, which is perfect.:)

shesabrandybuck
09-23-2008, 06:02 PM
I completely agree with your judgments, except for Alice, because I think that she is perfect.

Esme does look too old, and it really bothers me.
I do think they could have found someone prettier than the girl who plays Rosalie. Yes, that chick is gorgeous, Im not saying that she isnt, but in the book they describe her as the most beautiful creature on the planet, and I dont think she really meets those standards. Oh what am I saying?! I sound horrible!!! No one could meet those standards, but you get my point, right?

Curufin
09-24-2008, 12:29 AM
Yeah, I know what you mean, but I also think SM made casting her incredibly difficult when she said that. :)

http://images1.fanpop.com/images/image_uploads/Jasper-jasper-hale-981352_480_640.jpg

Jasper's wearing an old-fashioned looking grey (as in The Blue and the Grey civil war stuff?) jacket. . .SO AWESOME!

shesabrandybuck
09-24-2008, 07:06 PM
AWWW!! He really is cute. But, all yours ;), I wouldnt want to steal anyone away from you haha. I really do love Jacob...until Breaking Dawn. And I looooove Edward, but everyone loves Edward and I hate liking something everyone else likes cause thats just who I am hahaha.

Curufin
09-24-2008, 10:02 PM
Edward's nobility annoys me after a while. ;) And Jacob bothered me in New Moon. ;) And Bella bothered me in New Moon. . .

LOL, I must be reading the books for Jasper now. . .

shesabrandybuck
09-25-2008, 04:17 PM
Hahaha, looks like it ;)
Bella annoyed me in New Moon so much.
its like GET OVER IT!

Curufin

I'm somewhat amused. You all like the books, but not the main character? Was she really that bad? :p

shesabrandybuck
09-25-2008, 04:36 PM
hahaha, in my opinion......yes.

idk, maybe not that bad...

okay, yeah, i cant stand her.

Curufin
09-25-2008, 04:43 PM
Main character? Jasper isn't the main character?

Isn't he the reason that Bella was so depressed all through New Moon?

Yes, I believe he was. :p

Therefore, he is the central catalyst of New Moon, and very, very, very important. :p

shesabrandybuck
09-25-2008, 05:07 PM
hahahahahahaha he IS like at catalyst in some ways, i never thought of him like that

Curufin

shesabrandybuck

Ah, my dear, dear Jasper. . .;)

I'm loving "Eclipse." ;)

ElizabethAnnRoger
09-26-2008, 11:02 PM
do any of you feel that you can just sense emotions from everyone? you know what i mean? not like a power jus that you can tell whats going on with no problems?

Curufin
09-26-2008, 11:05 PM
That's what I was saying, EAR - it's been happening to me since I was about five. And it sucks. I used to start crying every day in the junior high cafeteria because it was so overwhelming, to feel what everyone else was feeling.

It's not something I usually talk about, though, as people generally think I'm a freak. :)

shesabrandybuck
09-27-2008, 09:01 AM
You're not a freak, Curu!! *tackles her into a hug*, we wuvvv youuu:):)

Most people think I am quite strange aswell, but whatever, I love who i am hahaha.

I have a hard time reading people. Sometimes it can turn out to be a bad thing...
But, I think I would like to have Edward's power. I always have wanted it. But, then again, that also has its faults.

frodomerryandaragornrock
09-27-2008, 10:31 AM
it would b nice 2 be able 2 feel what everyone else is feeling, but it is a great responsibility and burden im sure, but them again, u would know how 2 help people more than what u would b able 2 if u couldnt feel what theyre feeling.

shesabrandybuck
09-27-2008, 11:33 AM
It really depends on the kind of person that you are. If you are well-rounded, I'm sure you would use that power to your expense, and be able to help more people. Then again, if you are kind of introverted, Im sure that abilitly would toy with your mind soon enough, you know?

Curufin
09-28-2008, 12:40 AM
To be honest, it does both. Remember - this isn't something you can turn off. When you're upset, or when you're stressed or whatever, you're still receiving everyone else, which tends to intensify your own emotions. You're also more likely to broadcast when you're upset (lack of control, obviously), which in my case often leads to huge family fights when I pretty much do the opposite of Jasper. ;)

But it has its advantages too - I'm always the one someone calls when they're upset or suicidal, or got dumped. Because I can understand their feelings better than anyone else (because they're mine too).

shesabrandybuck
09-28-2008, 10:19 AM
People come to me aswell, but I can only really help when I fully understand what they are going through.

What do you think the covers of the book represnt?

Curufin
10-07-2008, 12:24 AM
Finally finished all four. :)

I didn't think Breaking Dawn was as bad as people made it out to be. Yeah, there was a lot of Shark-Jumping, but it was still fun. :)

And Jasper saves the day, as always. :p

shesabrandybuck
10-08-2008, 07:44 PM
He did save the day!! I wasnt that big of a Breaking Dawn fan, though.

Curufin
10-08-2008, 09:09 PM
It wasn't my favorite (Eclipse was), and I found Bella and Edward really annoying. But there was enough Alice and Jasper that I was able to enjoy it.

And the poor forger. . .:D

shesabrandybuck
10-09-2008, 01:04 PM
I found them annoying too. But I think that New Moon or Eclipse was my favorite. I read them so fast (all in six days!), that I forget which one is which and end up morfing them together.

Curufin
10-09-2008, 05:03 PM
Now I didn't like New Moon. ;) Of course, I don't really like Jacob. :p

shesabrandybuck
10-09-2008, 07:37 PM
thats why i loved New Moon, lots and lots of Jacob. then again lots and lots of annoying, complaining, depressing Bella....

Curufin
10-09-2008, 07:48 PM
Yes. And almost no Jasper. Except at the very beginning.

shesabrandybuck
10-10-2008, 02:36 PM
At Hot Topic, have you seen the Twilight shirts? I am thinking about getting a 'Team Jacob' and 'Team Edward' shirt. Most of my friends say that I have to pick one or the other. I cant help it :o !!

I finished reading Twilight a few days ago (I'm rereading.) Oh.my.gosh. Sexy Edward the vampire. :D

shesabrandybuck
10-11-2008, 11:26 PM
he he he, yes sexy Edward.
This is when Curu comes in...
Sexy Edward? What about Jasper!
haha, couldnt resist. I got my friend to start reading Twilight today :p

Curufin
10-12-2008, 01:37 AM
Sexy Edward? What about Jasper!?

:p

Seriously, Edward's way too stupidly noble for me. :p

EDIT: BTW, Jasper is in the new trailer THREE times. :D

In this (http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=44288316) version, you can see him at 00:20, 01:40, and 01:55.

JASPER!!!!

Edit: And Jasper and Alice are SOOO CUTE in this (http://images1.fanpop.com/images/photos/2500000/Twilight-Movie-Stills-twilight-series-2530626-1400-933.jpg) picture.

And Jasper is wearing boots. Just like a good Texan. . .:D

shesabrandybuck
10-12-2008, 01:42 PM
Ahhhh! Best picture ever!! Why does Edward look so damn skeptical? We must be in the High School's cafeteria. 'Cept it looks like they are actually eating instead of ignoring their food...

Curufin
10-12-2008, 01:44 PM
Yes, it does look a bit like they're eating. . .not that Jasper looks very happy about it. ;)

EDIT: Oh, and Edward's just jealous that he's not as awesome as Jasper. :p

shesabrandybuck
10-12-2008, 01:47 PM
Or Edward. Looks like Rosalie and Emmett are having a grand ol time.

Curufin
10-12-2008, 01:49 PM
Of course, what is Alice feeding Jasper? It looks like lettuce. Even if he were a human male, he'd probably still have that expression. :D

And Rosalie and Emmett are probably all happy because they're contemplating what of Esme's furniture they're going to break next.

shesabrandybuck
10-12-2008, 01:54 PM
Haha seriously, who feeds people lettuce?

As for Rosalie and Emmett, probably :p. This looks like it is probably from the beginning, when Bella first comes to Forks. Mainly cause of Edward's expression, and they are all eating together with Edward there.

Curufin
10-12-2008, 01:59 PM
Well, she is feeding him lettuce adorably. ;) Alice can't be too bad, if Jasper likes her, after all. :)

shesabrandybuck
10-12-2008, 02:04 PM
I love Alice!! They fit so perfectly!

Curufin
10-12-2008, 02:13 PM
Alice is certainly better than Bella, but I mainly like her because if Jasper likes her, how bad can she be?

shesabrandybuck
10-12-2008, 02:22 PM
But, its the same situation with Edward, if he likes Bella, then how bad could she really be...really bad. I love Alice's bubbly personality, it fits well with Jasper's mystery.

Curufin
10-12-2008, 02:32 PM
Hence the reason that my love of Edward diminished as I read the books. . .;)

I honestly don't know if I would have liked the books nearly as much without Jasper. He just added so much to them for me.

Curufin
10-13-2008, 09:51 AM
*double posting to check my new siggy and avatar* :D

shesabrandybuck
10-13-2008, 04:14 PM
Ohh!! Love both the sig and the avatar, Curu!! *claps giddily*
I think you would have liked the books without Jasper, when did you first noticed that you liked him?

Curufin
10-13-2008, 04:41 PM
Honestly? The end of Twilight and the beginning of New Moon. ;)

(Yes, I don't like Bella. ;))

shesabrandybuck
10-13-2008, 04:59 PM
Oh really?! Cute! I liked Edward from the start, I thought he was so mysterious. In Twilight when Jacob had his stint, I didnt think much about him. When he was mentioned for the first time in New Moon I got excited and I dont know why!! Then Breaking Dawn happened...and Jacob and I broke up...hahahaha!

His hair is way too long for me in the movies! I always imagined a cute little shag.:p

Curufin
10-13-2008, 09:05 PM
I never really liked Jacob. Maybe you have to be younger to appreciate him. ;) I always like the brooding mysterious guys with a dark, troubled past. :D

But yeah, most people start liking Jasper in Eclipse. . .I liked him way before. ;)

shesabrandybuck
10-14-2008, 02:51 PM
Yeah, my friend is obsessed with Jasper. I dont know when she started to like him though...
half the reason I dont like Edward is because everyone likes him. I always try to stray away from that crowd, but I cant help it this time
*tackles Edward to the ground*
wanna rip a few pillows apart??;);)

Curufin
10-14-2008, 03:00 PM
My main reason for not liking Edward is that anyone that obsessed with Bella is missing some good sense. :p

I had like a three hour long conversation with a friend about Jasper's Innate Awesomeness last night. ;)

Heh.

shesabrandybuck
10-14-2008, 03:24 PM
hahahaha awesomeeee, I think I could talk for three hours about John Lennon or George Harrison, maybe even Michael Palin or Eric Idle...not about Edward, pretty much for the same reason as you. I just try to imagine that Edward isnt into bella at all, and its me that he is in love with, THEN maybe I could talk about him for three hours.

Curufin
10-15-2008, 01:20 AM
Actually, our biggest complaint was that Alice totally doesn't deserve Jasper. :p

shesabrandybuck
10-15-2008, 02:23 PM
Alice is amazing. Youre making Jasper out to be really snobby.

Curufin
10-15-2008, 03:35 PM
Snobby? No, I don't see him as snobby. ;)

*hugs Jasper*

Alice just gets on my nerves at times. . . although not nearly as much as Bella. ;)

shesabrandybuck
10-15-2008, 06:28 PM

Curufin

That's true. She's light-hearted and generally happy, the day to his night. :)

Aww a German Shepherd!!! I love those doggies! Thats so cute, Rosalie, be sure to post a picture in the Pets thread. I always wanted to get two dogs and name them Lennon and McCartney, but a dog named McCartney sounds funny. So I was thinking Martha after Paul's dog. I want a Border Collie and an English sheep dog :D

So, how do you think they are going to do Breaking Dawn as a movie?

Curufin

I actually don't think Breaking Dawn would be that difficult as a movie. And it wouldn't be any cornier than the book was. ;)

*spoilers (kind of) for Breaking Dawn*

It seems like it would be a stupid, annoying movie. Boy loves girl, girl loves boy. Boy marries girl. Boy and girl honeymoon. Girl is very....*trying to think of an appropriate word*....hormonal? Girl gets preggers. And the rest is history. Even the ending "battle" wasn't all that great. I was so disappointed with that book on all levels.

Kinda spoilers!

Yes, me too. But Jasper was in it quite a bit, and I liked the part with Jasper's forger. And the part where Jasper and Alice save the day. . .

Bella got really annoying, though, and a friend and I have discussed how annoying it was that she didn't have to give up anything. Everything just worked out great for her. It would have been far more romantic if she'd had to sacrifice something. I really just didn't like how she totally became a Bella Sue at the end. I've honestly read better fan fiction. Which was sad, because I really like the premise, and the characters. . .I wish she could have ended he series better.

I agree with you on all levels. Everything just turned out fine and dandy, which it...shouldnt have. That book could have had so much potential, and I didnt really see much of it. I finished each book in a range of two days. It took me about three to four days to read Breaking Dawn because I wasnt really drawn to it. I lost interest in the book.

I wanted to start reading this series, but the library got me Eclipse instead of Twilight. Twilight's the first one, right?

Curufin

Yes, Twilight is first. :)

Read Twilight, skip the middle of New Moon, (:p to Link), read Eclipse, then only read the parts of Breaing Dawn with Jasper. :) Then you'll be happy.

You guys are crazy!

I'm going to disagree with you on Breaking Dawn. I really enjoyed it. The bickering between Rosalie and Jake was lol funny. The blonde jokes and the dog jokes kept the whole preggers chapters from getting depressing.

Did anyone notice how much crap Charlie dealt with during the course of the books?

shesabrandybuck
10-18-2008, 04:50 PM
He did have to go through a lot. I thought it was appalling of Bella for what she put everyone through.

They're not pulitzer prize winning books, so don't go into them looking for the best literary experience since Hemmingway or anything. :) But they are fun, and for the most part light hearted, and just a fun way to spend an evening. :)

And now, for your viewing pleasure, JASPER, played by the rather yummy Jackson Rathbone. ;)

Oh my gosh I love Twilight! Edward is so incredibly sexy! :D
I didn't think New Moon was as good as Twilight, but it was still ok. But Bella had some serious schizo problems going on there in the middle of the book. I mean, literally she has some symptoms of schizophrenia. :P :D
Now I'm just waiting for the library to get Eclipse checked in...
Edit: And Jasper and Alice are SOOO CUTE in this (http://images1.fanpop.com/images/photos/2500000/Twilight-Movie-Stills-twilight-series-2530626-1400-933.jpg) picture.

IMHO - Bella's got some serious issues, and she's really annoying, starting with New Moon...I liked her in Twilight, but after that, it was the supporting characters (Jasper...swoon) that kept the story interesting for me. And I started losing respect for Edward because he was so wild about her...;)

Now I'm just waiting for the library to get Eclipse checked in...

My favorite!

To me they look late teens, early twenties. And actually, I think it's okay if they look a little bit older. I mean, they're both far older than they are, and that's going to show in some way. You know how a person who has had a really hard life can look older than another person the same age who has had a really easy life? I always thought it would be something like that. They may be physically seventeen (or eighteen, or nineteen) but there's going to at least be something in their eyes to betray their real age. I don't care what Stephenie says about it. :)

As for Emmett, he looks perfect to me. :)

I personally envisioned him as being HUGE since he's supposed to be incredibly muscular. And personally, I don't think the cast picture does him justice. He looks fiiiiiine in this picutre as Emmett.

I have two parts of New Moon I like.

First, I love the part at the beginning when Jasper almost eats Bella. It would have been better if it wasn't "almost."

Second, I love the part at the very end when Alice and Jasper meet up at the airport, and just stare into each other's eyes. It's so adorable.

So yeah, two interesting Jasper bookends around five hundred (or however many) pages of moping Bella. Bah.

Twilight Makes for the Best Fanwank Ever

Yesterday's release of Twilight made certain that your weekend will be filled with the sound of screaming tweeny fangirl hordes, an auditory experience that the movie's lead actor Robert Pattinson described as "terrifying ... like the sound you hear at the gates of hell." It would be easy to hate these creepy, utterly mediocre books and the phenomenon they've spawned — but I think you'll find it's even easier just to throw your head back and laugh. Next to the fangirl hordes are even bigger crowds of "lolfans," and they are here to remind us that Twilight has truly given us the greatest gift of all: oodles and oodles of hilarious, sardonic ass-kickery from people on the internet.

Actually, you don't even have to go to internet fandom for some of the most entertaining critiques of Stephenie Meyer's work — Pattinson himself got the jump on everyone by mocking the series himself in an interview with Empire magazine (published in their October issue).

"When you read the book," says Pattinson, looking appropriately pallid and interesting even without makeup, "it's like, 'Edward Cullen was so beautiful I creamed myself.' I mean, every line is like that. He's the most ridiculous person who's so amazing at everything. I think a lot of actors tried to play that aspect. I just couldn't do that. And the more I read the script, the more I hated this guy, so that's how I played him, as a manic-depressive who hates himself. Plus, he's a 108-year-old virgin so he's obviously got some issues there."

In another video interview with E!Online, Pattinson speaks frankly of Meyer, and proves to wish-fulfillment authors everywhere that he's got their number.

When I read it ... I was convinced that Stephenie was convinced that she was Bella, and ... it was like it was a book that wasn't supposed to be published, like reading her — her sort of sexual fantasy about some — especially when she says that it was based on a dream, and it's like, "Oh, then I had a dream about this really sexy guy" and she just writes this book about it, and there's some things about Edward that are just so specific that ... I was just convinced that this woman is mad, she's completely mad, and she's in love with her own fictional creation. And I sometimes ... feel uncomfortable reading this thing, and I think a lot of people feel the same way, that it's kind of voyeuristic ... It creates this sick pleasure in a lot of ways.

Author and blogger Cleolinda Jones compiled several much-read commentaries on each of the Twilight books at her LiveJournal, and they're a joy to read — even more so than Meyer's bad-fanfiction-esque prose. (In case you're interested, her wiki works quite well as a Twilight guide for dummies — er, in this case, the lucky uninitiated.)

Previously on As the Vampire Sparkles, emoteen Bella Swan moves to a tiny little depressing rainy town and won't shut up about it. There she meets a mysterious boy who turns out to be a 100+ year-old vampire who literally sparkles "like diamonds" in direct sunlight and reads minds (but not hers), and after three hundred pages of Bella wondering why he's so mean to her and why he's so weird and why he's not being mean to her anymore and what his deal is and if he likes her and if he actually loves her and how much he loves her and how he could possibly love as someone as Mary Sue plain and boring and clumsy as she is and if his vampire family will like her, a plot finally shows up, but it doesn't last very long. And then they go to prom. In the second book, Edward the sparkling vampire leaves Bella for her own good, and she spends most of the book trying to kill herself with motorcycles and cliff-diving. Sort of. And then her best friend falls in love with her and turns out to be a werewolf, but Bella runs away to save Edward from committing suicide by public sparkling in Italy. In the third book, Jacob the best friend/boyfriend wannabe/werewolf turns into a total asshole trying to force himself on Bella, and a vampire with a grudge from the first book is trying to kill her, but more importantly, Bella and Edward argue about whether they should have sex, get married, and/or vampirize Bella, and in what order.

Hand to God, I did not make one word of that up. Twilight means never having to say you're kidding.

After posting a scathing, funny, and dead-on accurate review of the series ("Twilight Sucks, and Not in a Good Way"), blogger Kellen Rice of PSA received the obligatory hate mail from crazed Twilight fans. They told her she, too, should write a bestselling YA fantasy series before having the gall to critique one, so she posted a write-your-own-Twilight instruction manual with some truly memorable tips.

Do not research. It is not necessary to waste time getting biology facts, cultural lore, or cultural history correct. For example, if you choose to set your novel in a real-life place, don't bother visiting it. If you incorporate the ideas of another culture, such as that of the Sioux Native Americans, absolutely do not speak to any Sioux elders or Sioux scholars-as the author, you have no responsibility to accurately portray anything. Instead, take what history you can find out on the Internet and feel free to bastardize their cultural lore so that it fits into your story. Also, if you decide to use science to explain some of your fantasy elements, don't bother making it logically or factually sound.

MSN Movies posted a copy of "Twilight": The Lost Script, and clicking through it is cheaper and less time-consuming than seeing the movie — though it may be just as hilarious.

EDWARD: You are a magnificent flower and the sweet cherry atop my ... more life's sundae. Marry me and your life will be distilled bliss, for I do not eat food that requires cooking, and I am rich enough that your chemistry grade matters not a whit.

BELLA: Um, let's not talk about what you eat.

EDWARD: Your wish is my command, fragrant blossom.

BELLA: I don't understand how you can say that. I'm just a plain, awkward girl who needs to strap herself to the commode so she doesn't fall off. Accident-prone is my middle name.

EDWARD: I will sneak into your bathroom and offer my steady, marble-like arms as your supports. No harm shall come to you, my pet.

New York Magazine has a slideshow of 28 reasons Twilight the movie is better than Twilight the book, and most of them just involve endless — and totally justified — sarcastic slagging on the book. This list is a significant achievement, though, given that this series practically mocks itself.

At no point in the movie does this scene occur.

"You ... made ... me ... faint," I accused him dizzily.
"What am I going to do with you?" he groaned in exasperation. "Yesterday I kiss you, and you attack me! Today you pass out on me!"
I laughed weakly, letting his arms support me while my head spun.
"So much for being good at everything," he sighed.
"That's the problem." I was still dizzy. "You're too good. Far, far too good."

Also, this scene was cut, thank God.

"Besides, friends don't let friends drive drunk," he quoted with a chuckle. I could smell the unbearably sweet fragrance coming off his chest.
"Drunk?" I objected.
"You're intoxicated by my very presence." He was grinning that playful smirk again.
"I can't argue with that," I sighed. There was no way around it; I couldn't resist him in anything.

In general, we're just so relieved that the movie did away with most of the 1,000 scenes in which basically this exact thing happens:

Bella: Don't go!
Edward: I should go, but I can't.
Bella: I am happy!
Edward: You're an idiot for being happy.
Bella: You are still totally gorgeous OMG OMG.

Fiction editor Yoni featured Twilight for her Bad Book Month column, where she presented a full numeric breakdown of the book's flaws. Be sure to check out the full list at her LiveJournal; it is detailed, eye-opening, and what the internet whiz kids might call "LOLarious."

Number of Pages in the Book: 498
The First Hint of a Plot that Is Not Bella and Edward's Romance: page 328
When the Plot Actually Arrives: page 372

Boys that Totally Love Bella (Including Edward Cullen): 5

Approximate Amount of Time Bella and Edward are Romantically Involved Before Bella Is Begging Edward to Turn Her into a Vampire so They Can Be Together Forever: Like, two weeks. Maybe three. The timeline's a bit fuzzy.

USA Today blithely invited a storm of wank from every literary spec fic nerd out there when they asked, "What's better, the 'Twilight' series or 'Harry Potter'?" That insulting question drew comment from the likes of Peter Parker ("Twilight is why MJ and I aren't married anymore"), Harvey Dent ("You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself read Twilight"), Yoda ("Bullshit the Twilight series is, and stupid you are"), Bristol Palin ("Twilight increases teen pregnancy"), and even Jane Austen ("Bitch, please"). One concerned citizen even suggested that Stephenie Meyer was a Skrull — that would explain a lot, wouldn't it?

All right, so you're convinced: the Twilight series is a festival of badness. As far as Twilight internet fandom is concerned, however, "bad" can very easily become "so bad it's good." It may have put a hardcover and a sticker on some truly unworthy literature — not to mention green-lighting a film that embarrasses its own actors — but the publishing industry will not have the last laugh.

Wait, wait, that sparkling is real? Sweet mother of unicorns, and here I thought all the references to sparkling was just a way of describing how painfully perfect the vampire character was.

Twilight is by no means the best book ever written. Not even close. But that doesn't mean it can't be fun and/or enjoyable. I don't have to read Nobel prize winning literature constantly to feel self-fulfilled. Translation? Lighten up, it is just for fun.

The shining does look kind of bad. I thought there needed to be a lot more shininess and a lot less looking like some kinda skin condition. Remember, it's supposed to be noticeable enough for an instant death sentence from the Voluri. I think it's pretty funny though! I mean, how over the top is that? They don't fry in the sun but get sparkly instead? Come on. I love it. :D

But Jackson is pretty awesome...;)

There was a lot of Jasper in Breaking Dawn, and he seemed bothered by Bella's Mary-Sue-ness, even if Stephenie wasn't. ;) I think there's a scene where he just storms out of the house, annoyed because Bella has more control than he does...?

Peter Jackson...I can't completely hate him because it was his movie that introduced me to the books, and he did a good job on the first movie. The later movies, not so much.
