Okay, I'm sorry if a thread similar to this one allready excists, but I couldn't find one when I quickly searched for one, so here it is before I explode with enthusiasm.
You gotta hear this:

It's soo nice. It got me all hyper. Stumbled on it when looking for something else. :D
Anyway, I'm sure you all have songs you're dying to share with the rest of us, so go ahead!

What kind of song criteria are we talking here, cause I'm pretty varied. Nice song btw, really nice.

Haha, let's just say any of Coheed and Cambria in general, especially anything from No World for Tomorrow. I'd love to share any of their stuff, let's see...here's one of their most epic songs...

Well, what I meant to say was: Are we constrained to classical music (I really like classical music, btw, but not contemporary, just so we're clear) or can we throw out rock stuff too?

Sorry Mari, I still think John Cale's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckbdLVX736U) version of Hallelujah is better (sorry, couldn't find a better version w/out the string section).
Rufus Wainwright also does an awesome version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U68vS9Xl14M).

 Huh? Mari's song isn't classical (it's a 'rock' song written by Leonard Cohen).

Green Day: Boulevard of Broken Dreams (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxfpMGLMZ7Y)
Dear Nautipus, share whatever you want to share. Just throw it in the ring.
I love a lot of music and can appreciate even more, from the heavy classic stuff to the more rock and wilder stuff. As long as it's got some music in it and not just a lot of bass and screaming obscene or rude things, I'm fine with it. :D
Thanks for the links BoP! They are also very good. John Cale has a very nice pained voice for it.
When I listen to this I can relax, it is very soothing. Would almost make me cry ;) :Dance of blessed spirit by Gluck (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=5o0klP1elxE) The version on my cd is better off course, but it's about the music, not the quality of the video right?

Thanks, Mari. BoP......your a smartass.:D
I like some of Green Day's stuff, that's probably my favorite song by them. I'd never heard the other song, but it was pretty good. Mari, that was a very nice song, very soothing. I think that I'll throw one out there for all of the mooters out there.;)

*Is hit in the face by Nautipus' song... OUCH!*
Nice song! :D
Here two Dutch songs. The first is the title song for the Dutch version of Love Actually, called 'everything is love'. The second is fun, 'cause it shows you what is being sung. For example, if the singer says red, you see something red. If he sings pillow, you see a pillow.
Blof, Alles is liefde (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=8Kz0yYQERTc&feature=related) This one is recorded in Amsterdam by the way. I recognise some of the streats ;)

Leonard Cohen: In my secret life (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9jEg9sp1KI)
That's a rather unique song BoP. I'm... not sure if I like it  but I don't dislike it. :)
Here a few songs from me:
They're taking the Hobbits to Isengard (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Tin6NJqQQsM) I love this one! Especially when you see the face of Aragorn halfway through. In Dutch his expression would be called "wezenloos".
2 songs about the world we live in, both from Michael Jackson:
Heal the World (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=y8-HcclFytw)
Earthsong (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=f8muMo0fw_M)
Here one about people and share the love (it's a common theme today ;) :
Celine Dion - The Power of Dreams (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=E7IMomkDrLY)
And to end, 2 songs I like, by Enya and Moby:
Storms in Africa (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=_TA8_RP0uo8)

Leonard Cohen can be difficult, so don't worry Mari. ;)
This one should be easier:
Johnny Cash: Hurt (NIN cover) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmVAWKfJ4Go)
It's a heavy song. My uncle is a huuuuge Cash-fan and my parents also have a few of his CD's, so I'm familiar with his work :D
Heavy, but has real feeling in it. Thanks BoP!

Hehe.. Yeah, yeah.. I believe 'love' is a word too strong for my feelings for them. ;)
Hehe. My problem is: I know more ways of expressing the degree of liking in Dutch and Japanese then I know in English. I also tend to use like and love interchangeably, knowing full well that it isn't the same. Bare with me. ;)

Luka Bloom - I'll walk beside you
I'll walk beside you through the world today
While dreams and songs and flowers bless your way
I'll look into your eyes and hold your hand
I'll walk beside you through the golden land
I'll walk beside you through the world tonight
Beneath the starry skies ablaze with light
Within your soul love's tender words I'll hide
I'll walk beside you through the eventide
I'll walk beside you through the passing years
Through days of cloud and sunshine, joys and tears
And when the great call comes, the sunset gleams
I'll walk beside you to the land of dreams

Oh noes, I was the last one to post and I might have killed the thread for a while.. But I'm going to try again anyway, because I loooove this song.
It's Mizerable by Gackt. I didn't really like this song at first, but the more I hear it the more in love I am. I love the chorus. Unfortunately, at the moment, due to my ear infection, the whole song sounds off-key and Gackt sounds like a robot.
Feel free to watch the video if you wish. It's not really that weird, as far as visual-kei goes. I adore Gackt's fancy outfit. The wasteland looking parts just remind me of the ending of Final Fantasy VIII. I'm sure you've all seen the Squackt pictures. (As if the name "Gackt" couldn't sound any worse...) Wow, there are so many songs that I could call my favorite. I love the romantic hits of the 70's and 80's, those songs I got into when I met the person who's not be out of my mind for the last six and a half years. There's so many of those songs I couldn't choose.
"Into the West", a song performed by Annie Lennox for the close to the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King soundtrack was just awesome! "May it Be" by Enya for the Fellowship of the Ring always stands out. I don't cry often but that song probably brings me closest to it.

That is friggin' nuts. Singers, especially women, do NOT usually retain that kind of a voice like -THAT- beyond 45, if that far. Women usually peak at 30, and then tend to lose a little of their voice from there on, but OMG... This woman is friggin' 60 and she could pass for a 25 year old.
I don't think she's actually 60 in this clip, but today, in 2008, she still sounds EXACTLY like that.

Leonard Cohen's 'One of us cannot be wrong' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iels3GLw-zs). He sure knows how to use words..
An eskimo showed me a movie
he'd recently taken of you
the poor man could hardly stop shivering

and I guess he just never got warm
But you stand there so nice in your blizzard of ice
O please let me come into the storm.

I had a part of a song stuck in my head earlier today, but I couldn't remember any of the words, and it was going to bother me for the rest of the night.
So I had to call my brother and hum him the 10-seconds of the tune I was fixated on, which he managed to correctly identify as "Everywhere with Helicopter" by Guided By Voices.
Catchy song, I think. :)

I'm a Mark Knopfler/Dire Straits fanatic!:p
"Once upon a time in the West" performed live by Dire Straits in 1983 in their 'Love over Gold'-tour. Listen to it a few times and it'll grow on you:) It's pure chill-out;)
& the lyrics:
"Some people get a cheap laugh breaking up the speed limit
Scaring the pedestrians for a minute
Crossing up progress driving on the grass
Leaving just enough room to pass
Sunday driver never took a test
Oh yeah, once upon a time in the west
Yes its no use saying that you dont know nothing
Its still gonna get you if you dont do something
Sitting on a fence thats a dangerous course
Oh, you could even catch a bullet from the peace-keeping force
Even the hero gets a bullet in the chest
Oh yeah, once upon a time in the west
Mother mary your children are slaughtered
Some of you mothers ought to lock up your daughters
Whos protecting the innocenti
Heap big trouble in the land of plenty
Tell me how were gonna do whats best
You guess once upon a time in the west
Oh yeah, once upon a time in the west
Oh yeah, once upon a time in the west
Oh yeah, once upon a time in the west
Once upon a time in the west"

"Gravitate to me" - The The
I've been watching you for ages
You're like a boat without a mast
Struggling with the tide of destiny
Between the future and the past
I am the lighthouse
I am the sea
I am the air that you breathe
Gravitate to me
Through the ether
And the mists of the mind
You will come to me
To lay by my side
To stroke my hair
To cuddle my flesh
And to quell the torrents
In my subterranean depths
This world ain't strong enough
To keep us from each other
For we are kindred spirits
Born to become Earthly lovers
I am the lighthouse
I am the sea
I am your destiny
Gravitate to me
There is something within your voice
Something behind your eyes
Something inside your heart
That is beating in time with mine
I know you
From a previous incarnation
I know you
From a previous incarnation
I know you!
From a previous incarnation
Gravitate to me, gravitate to me
Gravitate to me, gravitate to me

Alright. Let me admit it.
We guys, here in this country (at least our generation) were slow to English Music scene, and by music I mean Rock. Of course I had seen Britney gyrating and Shakira moving her hips, during my mid teens. And with due respect, all that Pop, Rap, Hip-hop et al did not appeal too much. And so did the latest xyz-rock thats the in-thing and also the category of black/death/weird metal(Marilyn Manson and folks). So all I listen to is a bit of old Metal, like say Black Sabbath, Maiden, Metallica(BTW did any of you guys listen to their latest 'Death Magnetic'. The cover of 'The Ecstasy of Gold' is good, but unforgiven-3? ) Anyways I also do listen to a bit of progressive or alternative or whatever it is called, actually Radiohead, Porcupine Tree, Pearl Jam and so many one-song-wonder bands. But my preferences still lie with the Old. Floyd and Dylan on the top. Trippy Music and philosophical lyrics :D. Theres of course The Beatles, The Doors, Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Straits, The Who (a bit of 'The King' too)and who can forget the signature riff of 'Free Bird' by Lynrd Skynrd ?.
So you see, Im totally out of phase with the contemporary scene. Any good bands with progressive styles, philosophical lyrics?

Although I did watch Roger Waters & band (including drummer Zack Starr, son of Ringo Starr, who is by the way infinitely better than his father;)) in Hyde Park perform an awesome live act I still dream of witnessing the kind of grand stuff that was on display during the Wall Concert of 90' (one of a kind really) or during the Pulse tour. Megalomanic stuff you know!
