I saw the musical last week and have been searching for the lyrics to my favorite song but havn't been able to find them anywhere.

The song is called 'the cat and the moon' (I think), and is sung in the Prancing Pony by the hobbits and Breelanders.

Can anyone help at all?

I am absolutely falling in love with that musical. . . .so sorry that I missed it in Toronto, but I do hear that the London production is much better.

Would also love to have the Cat and the Moon lyrics if anyone knows where they might be found????

Thanks!

Are they different from the ones found in the book?

I've been trying to find the lyrics myself, but I gave up!
So I've tried to work them out by listening to the song;
The bits in italics are where i may have got it wrong (But that's how it sounds), and the nonsense bit near the end is really inaccurate :P

There’s an inn of old renown,
Where they beer a brew so brown,
Moon came rolling down the hill
One heavensday night to drink his fill

On a three stringed fiddle there,
Played the Ostler's cat so fair,
The horned cow that night was seen to
Dance a jig upon the green

Called by the fiddle to the middle of the muddle
Where the cow with the capers sent the small girl squealing
Boom in the puddle with the huddle by the griddle
Body slipped in the puddle and the world went reeling,

downsides went up, hey
outsides went wide,
As the fiddle played a twiddle
And the moon slept, till Sterrinday,

Upsides went west, hey,
Rucksides went boom,
With a twiddle on the fiddle in the middle by the griddle
And the moon slept, till Sterrinday

Dish from off the dresser pranced,
Found a spoon and gaily danced,
Horses neighed and chomped their bits
With a bloodshot moon had lost his wits,
Well cow jumped over dog brought wild
And the moon lay broke and sweetly smiled
Ostler cried why faster cow
Because we all want to dance like that!

Gambol and totter really hotter than a hatter
And his spin on a kipper like a windmill flailing,
World with a clatter till you scatter every potter
And the strings started breaking as the world went sailing

downsides go up, hey
outsides go wide,
You can clatter with your platter
But the moon slept, till Sterrinday

Upsides go west, hey,
Rugsides go boom,
With a platter and a clatter you can shatter every platter
But the moon slept, till Sterrinday

White forth fiddle diddle far forth fiddle diddle
Hey yay yay yay yo-o

Hey yay ding dang do

Hoo lai, and hotter clotter ho

Hotter clotter hotter clo

Hai ho fiddle diddle hai ho

Hoo lai hoo lai

Hotter clotter hotter clotter hai ho ho (repeated)

downsides went up, hey
outsides went wide,
With a twiddle on the fiddle in the middle by the griddle
And the moon slept, till Sterrinday,

Upsides go west, hey,
Rucksides go boom,
With a platter and a clatter you can shatter every platter
But the moon slept, till Sterrinday

Edit: The italics haven't come up! Anyway, I think these could be wrong-
broke wild
Strings on a kipper
bloodshot moon and/had lost his wits?
Body slipped

cool, i've made a few changes that i think may be right:

The Cat and the Moon lyrics

There’s an inn of old renown,
Where they brew a beer so brown,
Moon came rolling down the hill,
One heavensday night to drink his fill.

On a three stringed fiddle there,
Played the Ostler's cat so fair,
The horned cow that night was seen to,
Dance a jig upon the green.

Called by the fiddle to the middle of the muddle,
Where the cow with the capers sent the small girl squealing ,
Boom in the puddle with the huddle by the griddle,
But he slipped in a puddle and the world went reeling.

Downsides went up, hey,
Outsides went wide,
As the fiddle played a twiddle,
And the moon slept, till Sterrinday.

Upsides went west, hey,
Rucksides went boom,
With a twiddle on the fiddle in the middle by the griddle,
And the moon slept, till Sterrinday.

Dish from off the dresser pranced,
Found a spoon and gaily danced,
Horses neighed and chomped their bits
With a bloodshot moon had lost his wits,
Well cow jumped over dog barked wild,
The moon lay broke and sweetly smiled,
Ostler cried why faster cat,
Because we all want to dance like that!

Gambol and totter really hotter than a hatter,
And his spin on a kipper like a windmill flailing,
World with a clatter till you scatter every potter,
And the strings started breaking as the world went sailing.

Downsides go up, hey,
Outsides go wide,
You can clatter with your platter,
But the moon slept, till Sterrinday,

Upsides go west, hey,
Rugsides go boom,
With a platter and a clatter you can shatter every platter,
But the moon slept, till Sterrinday.

White forth fiddle diddle far forth fiddle diddle

Hey yay yay yay yo-o

Hey yay ding dang do

Hoo lai, and hotter clotter ho

Hotter clotter hotter clo

Hai ho fiddle diddle hai ho

Ho diddly ding dang ho

Hoo lai hoo lai

Hotter clotter hotter clotter hai ho ho (repeated)

Downsides go up, hey,
Outsides go wide,
With a twiddle on the fiddle in the middle by the griddle,
And the moon slept, till Sterrinday.

Upsides go west, hey,
Rucksides go boom,
With a platter and a clatter you can shatter every platter,
But the moon slept, till Sterrinday.

Fascinating, but lyrics-wise...:p I'd like to hear the music still.
