Thagadin Reed
He arose in the morning
The sun begun it's trail
The scent of flowers rising
His heart to no avail
He was a lowly kinsman
But at heart a poet
And under his womenfolk's bagering canter
Set then his eyes upon atonement
His heart beat as a warrior
His soul stationed as a throng
His mind set on euphoria
His spirit, this day to enthrall
He took his splintered staff
He raised the forged spear
He strapped his heirloom sword
He donned upon his deer
His helm was firmly set
Rose up far from his homeland
The road awaited, he met
Mounted upon his assed tan
Headed off through the wood
Past the southern slopes
Until by the gate he stood
Of his company home,
Standing amongst the grounds
Stood men of his county
Smells of fresh cut wood
Mead ale, and smithy.
Stood in front, that grand hall
Which his father served,
His fellowmen amongst the walls
Spoke loud, and drank, assured
Dismounted, he had begun
To listen in upon them
And rose up to shout did one
Said "Where has our captain been?
For I have waited many a day,
And many a day has come
Beyond goes the warrior's way,
To hold to that honor pledged, as done
In the past by our fathers
and their way cut the path, now clearly shown
Hither forth, we will rise the same shield to our home!"
Cheers rose up higher than he,
Their hearts beat hard within
Against those mortal foes
Who dared to stand against them
They would rise shield and sword
Splintered staff, and armor donned
To fight against those hordes
Whom fought to plunder their homes
Came voice from that man,
Whom we had known from the start,
A loud striking voice
Came from his bannered heart
"We have lived our lives within,
Cannot be under, take!
We have been many a day
Under a frightful foe
Yet every day that goes by
More victory is shown
We shall now venture on
Their rages to endure
The battle clamor will then stop
Our victory secure
And fight until the day we meet
Where peace we have is ours
And strongly fight until it come
To this end persevere!"
Another man walked within those halls
Dressed in dull and drab
And spoke in urgency!
"Word comes from the battleground.
Those men who were on the front lines
have fallen back to Striengrad.
We have lost the Eileen Bridge.
The enemy approaches."
"Look! The Eileen defense hast returned!"
They walked in dishonor, for
Dishonored they had been,
Beyond the battle clamor
Raised fears had within
And home came men, tattered
Their hearts felt fled away
Their souls, drained by the blood
Their minds, lost from within,
Yet their spirit, far from wrung
"These are no martial foe,
None that our fathers saw
Dark spirits who seek within
Our spirit's to enthrall!
We know our heart is true
To fight this valiant foe
But what they bring with them
Is dark, and full of woe!"
