Here's a link to one I did that goes along with my fanfic "Visitors Come to Court" - it depicts, "The Great Hall of Arthedain at Fornost - ca. 1000 T.A."

Here's one from my fanfic history of the north - my conceptual royal palace/fortress of Rhudaur - which I call "Brochenridge", also ca. 1000 T.A.

And - just the roughest of sketches - here's a composition study for how one might depict the moment where Sauron was attacked by Elendil and Gil-galad, with Isildur, Elrond and Cirdan also present:
I call it, "The End of the Second Age"

You once, I think a year or so ago, promised me to show me your drawings for that fan fic. About time you did, Karl, slowpoke. (Or should I say it was very entish of you? ;))
I specifically like the drawing of the Great Hall, I never knew you could draw so well.

I really like all your drawings valandil; very inspirational. I have not drawn anything from Tolkien, I have made up my mind to do something now, thanks for the kick in the u kno what.
I think I will start a thread, so people could nominate which character they would like to see me draw; what is your choice, "devoted to the Valar".

Thanks Telcontarian.
I say, just do who or what you would most like to do. Then your heart will be in it and you'll do a better job, right? :)

Those are v groovy Karl. You have captured something there of the spirit of the age.
El tel, your drawings are ultra groovy too. Your style reminds me of Erol Otus. Hurin would a good model for you, I think. Maybe nailed to the walls of Angband.

Way to go, Karl!!
I see you are good at architectural depictions. ;)
Love your Rhudaur palace drawing, it's something close to what I was picturing, while reading.
Just to keep the thread going I'm putting here my unfinished work.

I like that rendering you did, but what scene is that by the way. Very good.

mmm - i see the architecural but not the essence of the drawings ...
i'm glad to say (else i wouldn't post this) i did like the third - it had some feeling to it - tho' :o - er ... who's the guy with massive rear?? :D
as sketches i thought they were technically ok - but cold.
the last i liked because it had some life and action and told a story - the first i thought at best an interesting first draft.
-hope that is honest and not too critical Val-
-but i have genuinely enjoyed your fanfic - tho' it reminds me i am behind on it - and on Olmer's translation as well...
I would though, be interested when you put the full story and detail into a drawing to see what landscapes, direction and detail you envisage!
Genuinely.

I do believe the fellow with the disproportionate rear end is Sauron...And I really like your conceptual drawings Val!
I like how the banner and the fire have color - I like the hall one :)
Hey, Tel, speaking of Hurin, how 'bout Hurin defying Morgoth? I love that bit!

Val, great piece. i have seen you do simular stuff here on the moot, you have a gift for that. Is this something ur into or is it just a hobby.

Loved the first one especially, Gordis. :D The nice touch is that Rhapsody (the woman in the drawing) really was very much a Mary-Sue too.
(Unfortunately my monitor is too dark to properly view the second picture.)

Thanks, Earniel :)
What? You do know the Mary-Sue on the first picture? Tell me who it is and where I can find the original, please! I have taken both Sues from an avatar site called "Baldur's gate" but it gives no reference to the original artwork.
I have made the second one brighter - thank you for telling it was too dark:

The second being too dark is almost certainly due only to my computer. The damn thing has a stubborn monitor that even at a 100% light setting still tend to look more than moody. But thanks for lightening it all the same. :)
The drawing of the woman comes from the cover of a trilogy 'Rhapsody' written by Elizabeth Haydon. I've just run downstairs to look up the book. The title is 'destiny: child of the sky' and for the cover drawing they just said 'Royo' so I don't know whether that refers to the artist, or to a company or someone holding the copyright.
Upon thinking, possibly Louis Royo? A fantasy artist that I remember as being fond of drawing beautiful women.
But that should help you along with your search. :)

Must be Louis Royo, Earniel. He has an extensive collection of Mary Sues - wonderfully drawn all of them. He is a great artist. Thanks!!!
I love it, Gordis :D :D :D
I prob. shouldn't love it as much as I do, but I love it, for reasons that you know ....
Earniel

I find Mary Sues in art are far more tolerable than those in writing. I saw a calendar with Royo's art recently, and style-wise it looks he's very much the man for this drawing.
Hmm, this thread makes me want to start drawing some tolkien-themed stuff again...

Thanks, Rian! :)
Mary-Sues in writing (esp. the Tenth-Walker variety who falls in love with Legolas or Aragorn) are the Plague of Fanfiction. Funny that no one (to my knowlege) had thought that introducing the tenth member into the Fellowship shoulds lead to the introduction of the tenth nazgul, or better nazgulette.
Maybe it is because quite few of Mary-Sue stories are humorous. They take themselves so seriously... :D
You should definitely return to drawing, Earniel! :) I love your works.
