The Seven Wonders of Middle Earth

Maybe this has been done... but let's do it again! :)

What would you consider the "Seven Wonders" of Middle Earth. Any age.

I don't have a firm seven - but I have six strong nominees (one of which might be subject to disqualification) - and lots of other contenders.

My Nominees:
* Menegroth
* Gondolin
* Khazad Dum
* Sauron's Temple on Numenor (possibly DQ'd - he WAS a Maia)
* Bridge of Osgiliath
* Argonath

The Contenders:
* Pillar of Ar-Pharazon
* Orthanc
* Nargothrond (but we should only have so many underground fortresses)
* Erebor (ditto)
* Minas Tirith
* Dark Tower
* Amon Sul

The following were significant as well - should these be considered? All are by Valas & Maias:
* Thangorodrim
* Taniquetil
* Two Trees: Telperion & Laurelin
* Two Lamps

Those we know too little about:
* Gundabad
* Annuminas

There could also be the Seven Natural Wonders of Middle Earth:
* Falls of Rauros
* Mount Caradhras
* Falls, Tunnels & Gates of Sirion

What else?

Which ones do you think most belong?

Sounds cool. I'll add a few to the list. Under natural wonders, I'd add the Glittering Caves in Helm's Deep. Although they shortly became a Dwarvish city (And obviously underground). I'd also include Fangorn Forest. And Lorien for that matter. And I guess you could also include Lothlorien in the list of built wonders, as well as Tirion.

- Orthanc
- Khazad-dûm
- Gondolin
- Osgilliath
- Emyn Beraid, the Tower Hills

As runner-up maybe the Carrocks, the stairs that Beorn fashioned? Or Brandybuck Hall?

As for the list of Natural Wonders, I'd add:

- Kheled-Zâram, the Mirrormere
- Nenuial, Lake Everdim
- the Pools of Ivrin

Hmm, I notice a certain watery trend in my choices. :p

In the spirit of the real life wonders, perhaps they should be of the Ancient LOTR World? And are we restricted to ME?

i.e. Trees, Lamps (that's 4), Eldamar, Tol Eressea, etc
ME: Moria, Menegroth, Nargothrond, Gondolin, Thangorodrim, etc

Maybe we SHOULD keep it to Middle Earth. And - you're right about the trees, but I think the lamps were on Middle Earth.

(I had all those as DQ'ers anyway - because they were built by the Valar... but in many ways, I guess the Valar shaped a lot of the "natural" wonders, and put things in place for the others as well. :p
