This a continuation from this thread here (http://entmoot.tolkientrail.com/showthread.php?p=556853&posted=1#post556853), and to keep everyone upto date, it's durinsbane's turn to post a question.
durinsbane2244
07-18-2006, 04:58 PM
actually, it's spock's turn... ;)
jammi567
07-18-2006, 05:00 PM
You're the one who answered my question correctly.
durinsbane2244
07-18-2006, 05:01 PM
ok, i just completely lost track of things and confused this with the films...sorry...heh...moving right along...what description almost always follows the names of the founders of hogwarts in a story about them?
jammi567
07-21-2006, 10:58 AM
The atributes that each one had?
durinsbane2244
07-21-2006, 01:47 PM
no, i don't mean after each individual one, i mean after all of their names...
Spock
07-23-2006, 03:49 PM
"They were the greatest wizards of their time".
durinsbane2244
07-23-2006, 03:50 PM

durinsbane2244
07-23-2006, 04:12 PM

Spock
07-23-2006, 04:17 PM

jammi567
07-23-2006, 04:28 PM

durinsbane2244
07-23-2006, 04:29 PM

durinsbane2244
07-25-2006, 10:17 PM

Spock
07-25-2006, 11:02 PM

Spock
07-28-2006, 01:23 PM
8 days -anyone care to guess
jammi567
07-28-2006, 02:43 PM
didn't we already say that the answers 16-17
Spock
07-28-2006, 06:26 PM
didn't we already say that the answers 16-17
Have we reached such a low in education that such an answer even deserves a reply?
The question begs an answer; not a guess; not a range of dates, but a specific answer. :(
Butterbeer
07-28-2006, 06:29 PM
15?
(uk education fer ya! :D )
jammi567

That is correct.
jammi567
07-29-2006, 11:36 AM
what's the first word Dudley say?
E, LoR
07-29-2006, 06:48 PM
"want"... i think... do you mean his first word as a baby? or the first word he says in te book?
jammi567
07-29-2006, 06:49 PM
as a baby.
Spock
07-29-2006, 06:51 PM
Yeah but this is ABOUT THE BOOK so what ever the books say was his first word should be the answer.
jammi567
07-29-2006, 06:56 PM
the answer was 'shan't', by the way.
Spock
07-29-2006, 07:00 PM
So either Jam or E.Lor post the next question please. :)
durinsbane2244
07-29-2006, 07:01 PM
was it really? US edition says, "won't"...funny.
Spock
07-29-2006, 07:02 PM
Then you have to give it to DB. US and European versions of books and movies differ slightly and we must allow for those differences.
durinsbane2244
07-29-2006, 07:03 PM
oh no! i don't want it! i was just commenting on it...hehehe...
jammi567
07-29-2006, 07:06 PM
i think that E, LoR should post the next question.
durinsbane2244
08-01-2006, 09:33 PM
unfortunately, E, LoR, rarely gets on...mayhaps jams should go...

A new broom; cleansweep 11?
jammi567
08-02-2006, 04:20 PM
no, that's not right.
Spock
08-02-2006, 04:29 PM
R-U-sure  he got new dress robes from his brothers but they weren't for anyday special.
jammi567
08-02-2006, 04:33 PM

Spock
08-02-2006, 04:35 PM

jammi567
08-02-2006, 04:36 PM
just take a guess.
Spock
08-02-2006, 08:37 PM
In that case, what does Ron recieve for his 17th birthday?
A heavy gold watch, a pair of Quidditch Keepers gloves, box of Chocolate Cauldrons (the present Harry tossed over from his bed.)
jammi567
08-03-2006, 04:21 AM
watch is right. your go.
Spock
08-03-2006, 11:26 AM
Who is described as "never having done an honest days work in their lives?"
Ireth
08-03-2006, 04:29 PM
Mundungus Fletcher?
Spock
08-03-2006, 06:31 PM
Mundungus Fletcher?
....Trumpets sound, Drums beat, Orchestral music swells
yes!
Spock
08-12-2006, 05:12 PM
Eight days and Ireth hasn't posted a new question--Jammi, how about YOU posting one please.
jammi567
08-12-2006, 05:22 PM
in that case, what's the first potion mentioned in the series?
Spock
08-14-2006, 11:43 AM
hmmm, polyjuice potion?
jammi567
08-14-2006, 04:30 PM
no. :)
Spock
08-15-2006, 10:31 PM
really :(
jammi567
08-16-2006, 05:45 AM
really really. :)
Spock
08-16-2006, 10:08 AM
I'm lost then. :(
jammi567
08-16-2006, 10:16 AM
hint: they made it in book six.
Spock
08-16-2006, 10:37 AM
in that case, what's the first potion mentioned in the series?
To which I answered: polyjuice
Then you said No and added:
hint: they made it in book six.
However, the potion was made in Chamber of Secrets, by Hermione to change Harry and Ron into Crabbe and Goyle so they could question Draco.
That is not only a *mentioned* but a used also.
jammi567
08-16-2006, 11:58 AM
The answer definatly isn't polyjuice, and is mentioned in the first book, and they did make that particular potion in the sixth book.
Spock
08-16-2006, 02:24 PM
The answer definatly isn't polyjuice, and is mentioned in the first book, and they did make that particular potion in the sixth book.
Without going into what is or isn't in the 6th book.
How about what is in the first book; when Harry & Ron first attend potions class.
The first potion MENTIONED is in the statement : "for your information, Potter, asphodel and wormwood make a sleeping potion......." said by Snape.
Serenoli
08-16-2006, 02:53 PM
the draught of living death... they make it in slughorn's first class, and im pretty sure its mentioned in the first book.
jammi567
08-16-2006, 03:20 PM
YAY! finally. your go.
Serenoli
08-16-2006, 04:27 PM
ok, here's a silly question. Where does Bungy the Budgie live?
jammi567
08-16-2006, 04:30 PM
:D in a cage :D seriously, post a real question.
Serenoli
08-16-2006, 04:36 PM
You're wrong. Really. Try again.
Spock
08-16-2006, 05:37 PM
the draught of living death... they make it in slughorn's first class, and im pretty sure its mentioned in the first book.
Horace Slughorn does not appear in book one!
The question was WHAT WAS THE FIRST POTION MENTIONED IN THE BOOK
SNAPE TAUGHT POTIONS IN THE FIRST BOOK.
The first potion MENTIONED is in the statement : "for your information, Potter, asphodel and wormwood make a sleeping potion......." said by Snape, IN THE FIRST BOOK.
Serenoli
08-17-2006, 02:31 AM
Spock... cool down! Of course Slughorn does not appear in the first book.
I was talking about jammi's hint that the potion first mentioned in the series, was also made by the trio in book 6. If you read just a few words more, you'll find Snape said "for your information, Potter, asphodel and wormwood make a sleeping potion so powerful it is known as the Draught of Living Death."
So, the Draught of Living Death was the first potion mentioned in the books; and also was made by Harry's class in 6th year when they had Slughorn. Now, you gave an indirect reference to it, I gave the potion its name. Upto jammi to decide who gets to post next. Of course, an easier way would be for you to just tell me where Bungy the Budgie lived, that way you get to post next! :)
jammi567
08-17-2006, 04:32 AM
serenoli is definatly, definatly right.
Spock
08-17-2006, 07:54 AM

I QUOTED FROM THE BOOK I HAVE, US EDITION. SNAPE FIRST MENTION IS THE SLEEPING POTION, WHICH IS "KNOWN AS DOLD"....so the first MENTION is a sleeping potion.....then the name of that sleeping potion........
I give up
language and definition with multicultures involved is too frustrating.
jammi567
08-17-2006, 10:08 AM
but the sleeping potion is the dold, so they're one and the same.
Serenoli
08-17-2006, 01:01 PM
yes... anyway, dold is what jammi had in mind, so despite all the technicalities, its the right answer. There are probably many other sleeping potions, dont u know?
Anyway, spock, we all know wat the correct answer is now. lets drop that question, and move on. Either someone tries finding out where Bungy lives, or sum1 thinks of a better question to pose the public. Yes?
jammi567
08-17-2006, 01:07 PM
In a tree.
Serenoli
08-17-2006, 01:15 PM
actually, either tree or cage might be true, I wouldn't know. When I say, where does Bungy live, I'm thinking more in terms of an address...
jammi567
08-17-2006, 01:18 PM
How about posting a harry potter question.
Serenoli
08-17-2006, 01:28 PM
well, its in the Harry Potter books, hence it counts... an avid reader shud have picked it up. Give it some time, someone is bound to know.
Oh, and Spock I hadnt noticed the invisible line saying you gave up. Sorry for harping on even after that... :)
jammi567
08-17-2006, 01:34 PM
really. where in the books?
Serenoli
08-17-2006, 11:55 PM
aaah! that would be telling!
Ok, here's a hint. Its in one of the last 3 books of the series.
sun-star
08-18-2006, 09:07 AM
The Five Feathers in Barnsley.
Serenoli
08-19-2006, 12:31 AM
Yugo, sun-star! :)
jammi567
08-19-2006, 05:54 AM
An actual hp question this time please.
sun-star
08-19-2006, 10:25 AM
What's Gilderoy Lockhart's favourite colour?
durinsbane2244
08-19-2006, 11:13 AM
lavender. (why was that not a valid question before?)
jammi567
08-20-2006, 04:13 AM
because it wasn't in the books *picks up hammer, and tries to knock sense into durinsbane*.
Serenoli
08-20-2006, 02:23 PM
of course it was valid. OotP, Ch 1, cant remember the page no, but you'll notice its one of the news items that Harry overhears. How else do you think sun-star answered it? I did say it was in the books, and as such, its a fully valid HP question.
jammi567
08-20-2006, 03:09 PM
Ok, ok, i've just checked, and it's true. Sorry.
sun-star
08-21-2006, 03:28 AM
lavender.
Close, but not quite right.
Serenoli
08-21-2006, 04:55 AM
lilac
sun-star
08-21-2006, 09:06 AM
Correct :)
Serenoli
08-22-2006, 07:58 AM
When did the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang delegations arrive at Hogwarts?
jammi567
08-22-2006, 09:29 AM
30th October 1994 @ 6:30pm.
Serenoli
08-22-2006, 11:09 AM
Ok, you get it. Of course, more accurate would be 6pm, but as you gave the year as well, (which I didnt expect) you do deserve it, jammi. :)
jammi567
08-22-2006, 11:46 AM
I know. :) anyways, what spell is used on peeves in the third year?
durinsbane2244
08-22-2006, 03:56 PM
waddiwasi.
jammi567
08-22-2006, 04:05 PM

durinsbane2244
08-22-2006, 07:23 PM
hm.....what was peeve's doing at the time?
Serenoli
08-22-2006, 11:55 PM
Putting gum into a lock so Filch couldnt get in to his brooms, and... well, stuff, which he kept in there.
Spock
08-30-2006, 07:50 AM

durinsbane2244

dearie me! didn't even see! your go serenoli.
Serenoli
08-31-2006, 02:15 PM
Thanks, Spock, for reminding me.
Ok, what time of the day did Harry have his first Quidditch practice?
Spock
09-04-2006, 08:13 AM
noon?
Serenoli
09-05-2006, 11:32 AM

Elfmaster XK

Evening? After they had eaten their dinner.
Spock
09-06-2006, 08:35 AM
Well at 11 a.m. they were in the locker room preparing to go onto the field.....so if they rushed, the answer might be 11.a.m.?
Ireth
09-09-2006, 02:36 PM
Right after breakfast?
Spock
09-09-2006, 06:40 PM
?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????
Serenoli
09-10-2006, 02:59 AM
well, 11 am was good for the first Quidditch match, not the first practice.
Elfmaster is closest. It was evening, after dinner, actually 7 pm. Anyway, its been 9 days, so I guess Elfmaster gets it.
Elfmaster XK
09-12-2006, 04:55 AM
Okay, I don't know what the questions in the first installment of this thread were, how obscure etc. So, I'll start with this and apologise if it's been done before, or is too easy!
After Sirius dies, Buckbeak goes back to live with Hagrid. However, if the Ministry finds out, he'll be executed. In order to help protect him, Dumbledore gives Buckbeak a new name. What is Buckbeak's new name?
durinsbane2244
09-12-2006, 05:19 PM
witherwings...:D
Elfmaster XK
09-13-2006, 03:52 PM

Even though it's spelled "airplanes" in the US version :p , YOU GO! :)
jammi567
09-18-2006, 05:34 AM
Ok. What's the first spell Harry learns?
Serenoli
09-18-2006, 05:58 AM
Ummm... let me think. Well, the only one I can think of is Alohomora... which I've a feeling isn't right.
durinsbane2244
09-18-2006, 06:48 AM
well, really, any spell he sees, he "learns", as all he must do is say it, soooo...the first one we get words for is...Occulus Reparo.
either that, or wingardeam leviosa.
jammi567
09-20-2006, 10:52 AM
the latter's correct. your go.
durinsbane2244
09-20-2006, 07:15 PM
gotcha....er....what is the first bit of magic we see?
Serenoli
09-21-2006, 04:49 AM
Umm... Dumbledore using the Put-Outer to turn off all the street-lamps in Privet Drive?
Spock
09-21-2006, 10:49 AM
Well even before the lights go out, we see an Animagus turn from a cat into a professor. :)
durinsbane2244
09-21-2006, 09:08 PM
go for it, spocko!
Serenoli
09-22-2006, 03:07 AM
Well, I rechecked, and I'm pretty certain that Dumbledore used the Put-Outer first, then sat on the wall beside the cat, said something and turned to look at the cat, and then found McGonagall sitting there. Personally I don't mind if Spock gets the question... I'm a little short on ideas for a question myself... but I'd just like the record to be set straight, you know. :)
durinsbane2244
09-22-2006, 09:12 AM
WELL THEN WELL THEN! i've just checked, aaaaaaaand....YOU'RE BOTH WRONG! sorry, continue guessing!
jammi567

still all wrong...
jammi567
09-25-2006, 05:29 AM
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. it's seeing the cat reading the map, isn't it.
durinsbane2244
09-25-2006, 06:51 AM
wrong wrong wrong...
Serenoli
09-26-2006, 06:40 AM
Of course! Dumbledore Apparates!
durinsbane2244
09-26-2006, 05:06 PM
yes indeed! go ahead, serenoli.
Serenoli
09-27-2006, 10:27 AM

.....
Spock
10-06-2006, 12:01 PM

Okay, then, this is simple. What does Rita Skeeter call Blast-ended Skrewts the first time she encounters them?
ok, I'll jump in. The *first* time she sees them she says, "I've never heard of them before...where do they come from?"
Later on (in her Daily Prophet article and thus later) she wrote: "highly dangerous crosses between manticores and fire crabs...." -there's more but that's the jist of it.
Serenoli
10-07-2006, 10:50 AM
You are correct on both tdescriptions, but perhaps I wasn't more explicit in my question. I meant by what name does she call them the first time she meets them?
Serenoli
10-07-2006, 10:58 AM
oops, double post. how do i delete this?
Spock
10-07-2006, 11:49 AM

Oh, do you mean "Bang-Ended Scoots" ?

Wow, what a totally lucky guess. Moving on....
Where does ron live (and no, not the burrow...oh my god, a hint before anyone guesses!)
Serenoli
10-18-2006, 05:42 AM
The attic of the Burrow?
jammi567
10-18-2006, 06:44 AM
That;s where he sleeps, yes, but he doesn't live there, does he. :)
jammi567
10-25-2006, 02:04 AM
People, i wish for you to notice something. There is a question here that needs an answer. Without an answer, it's a nobody. so please, for just as many guesses as it takes, make this question feel loved. Please.
Serenoli
10-27-2006, 11:43 AM
:D :p An unloved, orphan question? Sure, I'll strew it a bit of love. Meanwhile, my two chapters are contemplating suicide.
Well, Ron's house was nearby the village of Ottery St. Catchpole, a beautiful name, I may add! That good enough?
jammi567
10-27-2006, 02:40 PM
not quite good enough, unfortunatly.

Acctually, Ron doesn't even sleep in the attic, because that's where the ghoul is. He sleeps in his room on the 5th floor of the Burrow. I also believe that is where he lives.
But, if that isn't right, then I'll be needin' another hint. I got that answer from the 2nd book. Which book is the answer in?
