So, I think I want this. http://www.suite101.com/files/articles/103000%5C103074/dragon2.gif
tattooed maybe on my wrist.
Didn't Tolkien draw it / wasn't it on the cover of the first edition "The Hobbit"?
Hmm... I've Always thought that the coolest Tolkien Tattoo would be either an arm band with the one ring inscription around my bicep, or the white tree of Gondor covering my back. But now that you mention it, old school Smaug would look good around one's wrist. Although, I am wondering, are you planning on getting it tattooed around your wrist, or up and down across your fore arm?

I would think carefully about getting a tattoo before I actually get one. While you may like the tatoo now, your opinion may change in 15-20 years.
If you really want a tatoo, maybe you should try a henna (sp?) tatoo. they are not permanent, yet can last for many weeks.
Cool design of Smaug.

I don't know about a tatoo (on me), but that would make an awesome embroidering on a shirt.

I'm not for sure going to get it, i'm just considering it. I've wanted it for around 3 or 4 years now. I'm not really all that in to tolkien anymore but I still want it for some reason, out of respect or something. I guess that's good, atleast I know it's not as likely just a phase?
I was either going to get it around my wrist or just on the underside, although it would have to be rather small that way.

Sminty your wrists are too skinny for that. Get one of gollum skulking around on your forehead.

Haha I met him on here YEARS ago, like 3 or 4 years? And I've met him in person and I still talk to him online but I haven't been here in forever so it's weird to remember I met him on here to begin with. Haha. That's our story.

ooook, see, i thought he just said "your wrists are too small" randomly... now that would be creepy... ;)

There was another tattoos thread in here once upon a time. One excellent suggestion was the Uffington White Horse:

Might wait till my mid-life crisis and get this instead of a Harley. Less fun, but cheaper and safer methinks, and also a design classic.
PS - nice to see you Sminty, I think the dragon could be rather cool, though I'd get your artist to stylise it slightly.

I've designed tattooes for other people. But another reason I want this tattoo is because an alternative would be to design one for myself, and I don't want to do that because as I improve artistically my older work is difficult to look at because I see all the flaws and whatnot... so I don't want to design my own tat.
So I'm letting Tolkien do it.... ha
I must admit, that Uffington White Horse is pretty sweet! :) i will most deffinately add it to my list of awesome tattoos :D

I've been thinking about getting a tat myself. My name in Elvish script, though I have yet to deside if I want it on my right arm or on the back of my shoulder.

A tat? I have never considered getting a tat, not even now. There is nothing in this world I love enough to get tattooed on my body. :p It would be like having someone carve grafitti in my bark. Ouch! Besides my Ent wouldn't like me marking up my bark.

I want one cause my parents don't want me to have one :p And it would make people ask questions
I can see it now:
Perfect Stranger: 'cuse me, but what the hell does that say?
Acally: My name
PS: *Look of complete confusion*
Acally: *goofy smile as she walks away* :D

A lot of kids my age are getting random, little, (relatively) meaningless tattoos around their 18th birthdays. I don't want to be like that... I either want nothing, or a huge backpiece or something. Option 2 is more likely.
I'm looking into getting this....

Here's a pic of it on someone else:

i don't know... i think that that back tat is a bit too elaborate for my liking, althogh it might look good if you get it without colour.
actually, i think that tat would probably look best on your shoulder.

That would cost a fortune and take days to do.

i shall be getting a tattoo as soon as i can afford it, whilst not strictly tolkien, it is a dragon...covering my back, grasping a pentagram in his claws, with the head coming down my left arm, and the tail ending on my right ankle...very expensive, so it'll take a while to save up

I have the most respect for the pieces that actually take weeks/months/years? and are a gradual project.
And I would simplify it a bit to compensate for the "bleeding" they tend to do as they age... and yeah, without or (with minimal) color.

Yi!! I don't think I'd ever be brave enough to get a permanent thing like that affixed to so much of my body. Wow.
Incidentally, I was asked to draw a dragon for someone wanting a tatoo. Should be interesting; I've never drawn something for a tatoo before, and although I've tried before to draw dragons, I've never done one seriously.
really, i've always kind of wanted to design tattoos because.... well, because it seems like it would be a real cool thing to do.

haha, dunno bout brave, but thanks all the same, i mean i do all sorts of strange things to my body when i am performing with my band, so i have a rather large tolerance for pain and the such anyways :D

Now, there's something I'd like to see a pic of one day, in hopefully not a too distant future. :p
There's one dragon tat I'll never get out of my head, and that would be the legendary "Puff the Magic Dragon" (available through google for those who don't know it and are.. er.. old enough to see it..). I couldn't help thinking "omigod that's so cute!" Yeah, I'm kinda weird like that.
