In the hobbit there is mention of something called a furrier (Or something like that) who calls rabbits "Conies" and turns there skins into squirels (Or something like that) anyway, in LOTR Sam refers to rabbets at least once as "Conies". So that brings up the question: Is Sam a furrier? (Or something like that)

Sam's no furrier by trade. He's certainly not mein furrier and he ain't never caught a rabbit but he's still a friend of mine. ;)
P.S. Coney is just another word for rabbit, there's no special furrier connotation to it, e.g., I grew up, in Brooklyn, not far from Coney Island.

That's a humorous reference to Gandalf calling Beorn a "skin-changer"; Bilbo thinks Gandalf is talking about fraudulent trappers who misrepresent rabbit fur as squirrel. (From a former farmhand on a mink ranch; lots of sleaze in the fur business)
