I heard rumors of that while LotR was still on the big screen. But are they true?

If you go to http://youtube.com/watch?v=wqrpLJRYCZI&search=lord%20of%20the%20rings%20trailers, you can watch an authentic trailer for it.

I only saw it without audio - but it looked an above average fake.

Nothing special - wouldn't take me much above an hour or so to do a much better job ... :p

(reminds me i still have to work on the nazgul and Kings, friends and rings RPG piece sometime ...time ... maybe? )

The audio was the best part! It may be fake but I think it was cool to watch.

Some of the trailer was definitely taken from LotR. And the music didn't sound like something Jackson would use.
But I still hopes he makes the Hobbit movie! I've heard that he was going to do the Hobbit after King Kong, sooo... HOPE! :p

The music is in the RotK computer game...
There's this little show thing and it's to that music.

According to one source, it was FOTR and a film called "Dragonslayer" from the 80's. Yeah, a random tidbit. :D

why don't you want him doing The Hobbit. is it because he did a *bad* job at doing lotr? because a) you're never going to get a perfect interpretation of it from book to film and b) that's just one view point.

I think if he does to the Hobbit he wouldn't make such a hash of it. It seems like a far easier book to be made into a film.

excactly my point.

they'd better hurry up though, both Ians (Holm and Mckellen) are getting old. :(

Oh. I.... knew that. :o

I'm going to predict that, if Jackson does make it, it will be at least 3 hours long. :p

I might have said this before, but the Hobbit could actually be a disaster just waiting to happen. People expect something epic, in the vein of LOTR. If they don't get it, they might not want to go see the movie. If they do get it, it's a distortion of the book. Why?

Tolkien made TH as a kid's story, and it's never going to approach the mature level of LOTR. You can't find anything epic in there. It's just a nice treasure-hunt story with a dragon thrown in.

We can always use a good adventure story/ movie. The Hobbit is what Introduced me to Tolkien. He could possibly get a PG rating this time

That trailer was pretty neat to be a fake. Loved the music. Notice the "release date" is the same as the release date for FotR

I just watched it again, this time with audio. Awesome! Although IMO it needed some narration.

You can tell that the "Gollum" isn't really Gollum in some parts...and I don't recall Gandalf being at the burning of Esgaroth...was he?

I don't think so. He came back after, IIRC.

Well, probably the biggest reason for it is that MGM owns the rights, and are apperantly wanting to hold on to them. They saw how NewLine pulled itself out of the blackhole with the LotR films...:p

I don't see the movie happening. There's the tangle of trying to buy the rights off of MGM. As others have said, MGM is stingy with the rights. Then Both Ian Holm and Ian McKellen are already old. Holm is too old to play a young Bilbo. They will be even older by the time they pull it off if they do.

Make-up has wonderous effects my friend...

Though I honestly would not mind seeing a different Gandalf...
