i didnt know where to put this and cant remember ever seeing anything about it but...has anyone ever did a search on what thier elven names would be? i found a place where you type in your real name and it gives you your elven and hobbit name. my real name is douglass huxley and i guess my elven name is Taurin Eluch and my hobbit name is Bodo Chubb of Deephollow. i dont know how they came up with this but there it is. im not sure how to put the link in here so i cant show where i found it but if anyone has any feed back or has come up with thier names id like to hear it.

Probably another one too.
Granted, that topic is like 4 years old :P

First my elven
Ireth MĂ*riel (just first and last name)
MaranwĂ« MĂ*riel (included my middle name)
Then my Hobbit name
Primula Toadfoot of Frogmorton (just first and last name)
Melilot Toadfoot of Frogmorton (included my middle name)
Hmmmm, my father is from Wales, a couple of these names look in part very 'Welsh', oh wait, wasn't Welsh one Tolkien's 'language-loves' and 'inspirations for the elven language?.....why yes.....it was. Very cool site, thanks FCoG for reminding us of it

Hey, cool thread! I'm supposed to be assembling office furniture, but this is infinitely more fun. Earthbound, I like how the toad/frog theme ties in with your name; VERY cool! Earniel would dig on that, I bet. :D So - I like my hobbit name way more than my elf name.
Hobbitname: Sweetpea Bleeker-Baggins of Fair Downs, and
Elvenname: Ireth Aldarion  Don't care for the elven name much, but the hobbit one's quite cute!

Quenya translation of my name is Ennostë Aiwë Meldë. If I changed my last name to my mother's maiden name, as I'd like to do, it would become Ennostë Aiwë Rempanengwë. I'll leave it to Quenya speakers to figure out what that last one means. :D
I've never translated it into Sindarin... let's see. Adonnen Emlin Melui/Raegnem.

03-04-2006, 11:51 PM
Just because, I redid my elf name and supplanted my real first name with Lotesse and got: Nienna Aldarion, which I like infinitely better than whatever it was initially, with my real first name. I am partial to Nienna; she is one of my favourite Valar, if not my favourite. :) :)
Acalewia's MyPrecious Elven name generator website gave me Amiolia Greenleaf for an Elven name. Weird first name; kind of like chewing on marbles. I think they just randomly draw these names out of a hat.

How are these names on these sites being derived? The name Jean Means Gift of God. The Name Baker is nan English occupational name. To get it right the engine would have to know the meaning of each name ant the translation of the corresponding words into Elvish and whatever Language Hobbits speak
Am I to assume that Findecáno=Gift of God in Elvish & Sáralondë=one who bakes?
The Telcontarion
07-09-2006, 06:43 PM
The site gave my elvish name as "Fingolfin Helyanwë." I happen to know the real meaning of my first name, which is "the clay that binds together." Fingolfin certainly does not mean that, so the site is no to accurate IMO.
Huorn
07-24-2006, 08:51 PM
I don't give out my actual name on the web, but here is my Elvish name: Doronlassil Huornlasse. It is old Entish, which is derived from the Elvish for Oak Leaf Huorn Leaf. I did not use any random generator to come up with the name. I used careful research to create the name. I don't trust random generators like Barrow Downs.
I tried it and it gave me Anie Felagund. Very Inaccurate!
