The trailer has me intrigued because I don't think I've ever seen a movie focusing on the Mayans (or Aztecs -- I can't tell which).

Mel Gibson is insane. This movie is going to be in ancient Mayan I believe.....hopefully with subtitles, heh.

There have been reports of him inserting himself into his trailer - in 1 frame for less than a second. You wouldn't even see it unless you went literally frame by frame.

Not sure if it is a joke or not, but I am fairly certain that it for real.

It is about the fall of the Mayan Empire... something like that.

Doesn't Mel Gibson star in "The New World" also? Any idea when that's being released?

no, he doesn't star in that.

And that movie has been in limited release for several weeks now.

Wide release January 20th, I believe.

Because; and I hold this true for most historical movies; ancient cultures (including greeks, romans, vikings, picts, and so on) speaking english sounds pretty ridiculous. :p

Well, romans can pass.

Personally, I think the project seems interesting. Will be fun to see.

Anything involving Gibson speaking English, or any other language for that matter, sounds pretty ridiculous. Mel Gibson is pretty ridiculous, no matter what. Jokus Profundis.

Lotesse, my dearie. I know The Passion of the Christ was a little hard for you to swallow, but Mayas?:D In an ancient language? No other director can pull it off as well. There is prejudice against Gibson now of course...but nobody was against him after What Women Want or even Signs. Braveheart is a masterpiece with all its mistakes...anyways, I don't think there's anything funny about him making this movie, and I am most definitely going to see it.

Now Terrence Malick (The New World) can pull off the kind of film that is ultra boring with an unmoving camera, dead characters, and purposefully undefined plots (which is not too bad if its done well). If he was the one directing this maya movie we'd have Kuzco (aztec!) standing still in front of the camera for forty minutes straight, and then probably the camera would pan to a caterpillar on a leaf, probably for a good fifteen minutes. The guy needs to be a photographer. ;)

Hmmm...besides The Mission, and this spanish film I saw called "Cabesa de Vaca" I don't think I've ever really watched a film about south american indians in the old days. It needed to be done.
