Tired of movies where the "bad guy" wins!

I think I've actually never saw a film where the bad guy won. Not when who's bad and who's good are clearly defined.

Ahhh! 7 was sickening and a bummer. I don't watch films to discover what wonderful TRAGEDY has befallen characters I may have begun to empathies with.

I thought that headless horseman movie with Johnny Depp was a bummer ending too.....I may be wrong, been a while since I've seen it.

But thats what made it brilliant. Yes it was sickening but it worked. Why only see art to seek a happy ending? I like art that works. Even if it leaves you depressed and shaken. Thats legit. Its just a lot harder to do then the usual formula.

Perfect Storm was similar in that way too. It wasnt as disurbing in a pyschotic grusome way but I actually found it more disturbing because you know the WHOLE time everyone is going to die and they make you connect with these characters and you go along with it and they DIE ANYWAY! But I think that was a good film too. I think any film that can pull that off is doing something better then the usual happily ever after type of film.

But still...back to the point! The friggin "Bad guy" won!

I am tired of the bad guy winning...I may be foolish...but I am sick of seeing movies and looking over at my wife and saying..."You know this one is going to end bad, don't you?"

Also worth mentionig is Stan Kubrick's version of "The Shining"...This film(or piece of crap) made me so mad...

I suppose it has to do with personal taste. In school we always seem to read only books that ended bad. Since then I have a big dislike of stories that don't end well or where the bad guy wins, written or filmed.

I liked both seven and Perfect Storm; they were good movies (although in Perfect Storm there wasn't really a bad "guy"), but I HATED Natural Born Killers. If a movie is well done, then the bad guy winning can enhance the power of the plot, but not all movies are well done. You just have to make a guess about if you're going to enjoy it.

My vote for one of the top five movies where the bad guy won: Chinatown. Errrggghhh, chilling ending!

I agree with Ringbearer, but I go even further than he: I've decided I'm not going to see anymore "R" movies. I'm not saying that the movies aren't well done, moving, or powerful for I've found many to be all of those things. It's just that I'm tired of them. I'm at a point in my life where I need things to be positive and uplifting, especially what I read and watch for entertainment. There are too many awful images in my head already and I don't need to add to them.

Not a judgment on anyone else nor on art; it's just where my head's at right now.

I agree with you cee2. That's why I stopped watching horror movies many years ago. I'll catch part of one on tv every now and then, though, and just watch for as long as I want to, then change the channel. But there are some good R movies that aren't disturbing, but are just more adult in nature (than a movie with a lesser rating), such as American Splendor. And sometimes movies that contain violence or some disturbing images are done well, not just for the sake of including them, that it makes them worthwhile to watch. The Passion of the Christ comes to mind, or Minority Report.

Well stated...in the first thread I stated that "I was tired of these types of movies"...they are not uplifting in any way!
Sure, some folks like them and think they are more "true to life"...I want my life AND others to have a happy ending...

You may laugh at me for this one...remember the movie "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids"?...I cried when the animated ant got killed!...I was MAD at Disney for years...why the (expletive omitted), didn't they just let the poor thing just walk away...it befriended the kids and saved them...then SWOOSH...it gets killed

Bad Guy Wins movies are getting more numerous...as are ones that don't really end. My dad recently watched a movie with John Malkovich that ended with a boat exploding. Sounds stupid (probably is if it has John Malkovich).
if it's done well, Bad Guy Wins movies can work really well, if done pointlessly...well, they're pointless. ;)

By the way, Ringbearer, I don't think BadGuyWins movies are always "true to life" either:)

Depends how the 'bad guy wins'. I get really annoyed and fed up with all these realistic-ish political movies like Syriana where the whole point of the movie is not to show the furtherance of any good, but the evil in the world. I realize that often this is the truth, and I know that if I don't like movies like this I should just not watch them, but nevertheless I get tired of getting shnookered into seeing what it advertised as entertainment and instead end up watching some depressing movie about corruption. I don't mind movies where the bad guys wins, per se, it's just the ones that pound the hopelessness of the human condition into the brain that really tick me off.
