The white city was hard beseiged,
And Sauron would have victory.
Minas Tirith, the fortress fair;
The last defense of Gondor.
A giant horde of creatures fell;
They came to slay the stronghold's men.
A fearsome army, and it struck
Despair into the people.
And Denethor, who kept the throne-
Despairing, burned on flaming pyre.
Yet for a leader there was one:
Gandalf the mighty Istar.
The Rohirrim came to the aid
Of the White Tree of Gondor great;
The horse and rider, shield and spear-
"Eorlingas!" for Gondor!
And in the hour of gravest need,
When all their hope was fading fast,
Leading a mighty shadow host-
Came Aragorn the ranger!
The Mumakil, called oliphants,
Were felled by scores of mighty men.
The battle raged, while men fought orcs,
And then the King came charging!
The phantom host of Aragorn
Struck fear into the hearts of all.
Then, when the awesome charge was done,
The mighty king released them.
For years after the mighty seige
Men sang great songs that spoke of him.
The King who had come back to them-
Them, the City of the Kings!
Not much rhyming, but I think the meter is sound. Should this be in Writer's Workshop?
