well, they have that Burarum thing, Fat Middle is the group moderator, and he said its something for long time members. I think its just a group of certain members to let them have access to certain things that others are not allowed into. someone correct me if I'm wrong
Well, that sounds kind of cool. Could new members create their own groups?

Ben doesn't allow groups to be created. bascially what it allows is peopel or admins to create groups which people can join. Sometimes it's by invitation only - sometimes it's open to anyone. I've never seen where it would make sense to have it on entmoot - but I'm sure large sites it could come in handy - because then you can set up sub forums where only those members of a group can post.
I have VBulletin now - so I could create groups (if it had any members)

The whole group membership thing isn't the wierdest. What's the whole 'subcribed thread' thing in the User CP for?

IIRC, the user will recv emails or some type of notice when something is posted in the subcribed thread.
I have found it to be annoying since I would recv too many emails (esp. on a busy thead).

Oh. Is that how people always seem to know when a new thread opens or when someone posts something on a really old one? Cool.

Hi everyone, while exploring my CP I found a link to a Group Memberships Page (http://entmoot.tolkientrail.com/profile.php?do=editusergroups) I was wondering if somebody could explain the use of User Groups here at Entmoot as I couldn't find anything in the FAQ section, if someone can show me where I can get more information or explain them to me it would be greatly appreciated :)

Look above for your answer, I've merged your thread with a previous one of the same topic. It can be useful to do a search once in a while... ;)

What do you consider a long time member? Five years? That category leaves me out, if that's the case. But I'm getting there, eventually, one of these days, for now, later, tomorrow, next week, pretty soon, not long...All those other lame excuses for procrastination attempts bound to fail... :D

Nah...Never quite got brave enough. I wonder what sort of reason I would give?
"I want to?" :p
"Because I finally reached 1,000 posts?"
"The espresso machine is jammed?" :D
There ain't a single good reason I can think of yet. ;)

Well, perhaps I could say that the combined force of Martians and EDDIE will invade if I don't get to join, but that sounds a bit like over-doing it.
