The shire... who doesn't?
true, even saruman liked it as a vacation destination :D
is'nt there a thread like this already? thought I had seen one around...
My fav place is the Shire I think. or on of the forests. Or, maybe just Fangorn. Mirkwood is too gloomy. But in the Old Forest I might see Bombadil. Which would have been nice. And I deffinetly would like to visit on of the citys as well. But if we count Beleriand as well... Then it is Gondolin all the way.

Well, where I grew up is like the Old Forest, where I live now is like Mordor (lots of dirt and rocks), and where I'd like to live is like Fangorn. I think Fangorn is really my favorite place.

I absoloutly love mordor...... :D
We probably don't fully realize "good" unless there is "evil." As Arlo Guthrie once said, "You can't have light without a dark to stick it in."
And my favorite place in ME to live would be the Shire, but my favorite place to visit would be Rivendell.

I've always loved the Sicilian countryside feel of Ithilien, but I also love the English countryside feel of the Shire. I like the Rome/Athens feel of Minas Tirith, the Hawaiian islands feel of Valinor, the Swiss Alps feel of the mountains, Rohan feels very Irish to me for some reason - perhaps because of the people, and their love of the equestrian lifestyle & horses in general. Lothlorien has always struck me as kind of a hippie commune, not my cup of tea, but Rivendell has a neat intellectual vibe going on, what with all those books & artifacts, and then they have all those beautiful waterfalls... hmm. I think I'd just be a wanderer there, like I am here on this planet. There's too much to love. How to pick just one?

Why “the Hawaiian islands feel of Valinor”, Lotesse?

O.K., not Valinor; it was the blessed isles or whatever that I was thinking of, Erresea maybe? across the sea, the perfect islands where the elves go, like their heaven, or whatever. I don't know why I was thinking the name "Valinor," I'm still tring to digest all Tolkien's geography - he's got a zillion different names for everybody & everywhere, plus some of his geography literally changes during some middle-earth changing events in the Sil. :o

no doubt, little more togeather than Rohan, on the water, citified with a rural vibe. The new mayor is going be tough on crime also. Live in Gondor invest in Mordor. (delivered vacant)

Lol, Lothlorien as a hippie commune! What an idea. I'm just having fun picturing Galadriel in a big tie-dye mumu and sandals, and Haldir with a big peace sign tattooed on his chest. ;)

I'd say Gondor. There's just something about its archaicness that's awesome.
Plus they've got awesome warriors. And King Aragorn.

YES! YES! Gondolin :)
And from 3rd Age ME... Ithilien. And Dol Amroth at the Sea!!

I had to bump this one. Tessa, too funny. Lorien as a hippe commune! :D :D . It does sort of have that feel doesn't it? Wandering around lost, people talking and you not understanding a word they are saying, and the love of trees. :p
The place I would want to live is probably the Shire. Good "pipe" weed, fresh veggies, the party tree, and of coarse the hobbits themselves. Though, like Lotesse, I'm a wanderer so I'd end up leaving to find a new place to call home. Maybe Minas Tirith, or Fangorn, depending on my mood. Gondor if I'm in need of company and Fangorn if I'm in hermit mode and want to be alone.

Definitely the Shire. Buckland, to be specific.
Or Edoras or Minis Tirith.

I'm intrigued by a post-Sauron Mordor. Will anything be done to restore the land?
My favourite place is Rohan. The people, landscape, language, and culture appeal to me a great deal.
I also like Mirkwood, because I love trees and all that is good and bad about a forest. Plus I admire to Elves of Mirkwood for making a go of it without one of the Three, and with Sauron for a neighbour.

I think Mithlond for me. Lots of history and the lovely northwest seaside. :D

I thought so...But I dunno. Its a toss up between Harad and Rivendell. Though the elves kinda knock it down a tad for me. Buncha snoots...
And I like Rohan, but am kinda bugged that they dont have a written language or anything really. Not exactly the most intellectual of places. But it suits me. Fights and horses.

But snoots who provide nice scenery. Imladris would be the place to go for eye-candy. :p

And arm candy... Anyways, I can picture them being a sophisticated cafe type thing. Elrond actually does look good in a barrette.

Give me a Gimli with his beard tied in blue ribbons, and maybe a Gloin with a bonnet. You keep your nasty elves. :p

I prefer dwarves. I mean, their hospitality is my style Beer, meat off the bone! But I do want to be able to talk about other things than just smithing and axe work and mining once a millenium.

I would have to go with Gondor or Rohan (if anyone cares for my opinion.) Gondor's armor is more my style newayz. All the elves end up just ditching everything and going into the West and leaving their cites in a state of decline and all that good mess, so it really wouldn't be all that nice by the time you got there, would it?
Maybe none of that made sense, but.... :o oh well.

Okay, I've changed my mind on where I'd want to live in ME. It's Henneth Annun. Here's why,
They stood on a wet floor of polished stone, the doorsteps, as it were, of a rough-hewn gate of rock opening dark behind them. But in front a thin veil of water was hung, so near that Frodo could have put an outstretched arm into it. It faced westward. The level shafts of the setting sunbeat upon it, and the red light was broken into many flickering beam of ever-changing color. It was if they stood at the window some elven-tower, curtained with threaded jewels of silver and gold, and ruby, sapphire and amethyst, all kindeled with an unconsuming fire.
Ahhh, to call that home. :)
