HP and the Sorcerer's Stone

Just noticed there wasn't a thread on this book :)

I read it about 6 months ago, and enjoyed it very much. It definitely inspired me to get all caught up on the movies and the books.

I thought the movie was well-done, esp. the creepy head in the back of the head of Prof. whateverhisnameis!

And I don't know about you guys, but I just LOVE the music!

I am afraid that much of the unnecessary and anti-Potter machinations were induced by the title change from Philosopher's Stone to Sorceror's Stone. This was done because of the publisher's fears that the word philosopher would be a) unintelligible to the crass American public, b) be off-putting to those inclined to buy the genre due to (a), c) have too many syllables for the adults who might purchase the book for themselves or children, and d) not be catchy enough. (Tongue firmely planted in cheek on one of these reasons only! The rest are true.)

But, if children's book editors and publishers were actually nefarious enough... this could have been a clever ploy to generate much free (though admittedly adverse) publicity.

Are advertisers that clever? :rolleyes:

Or was this a classic blunder on the advert depts part?

dis book gt me hooked on harry potter butt it is by far the worsed book :)

Bwahaha! :D I think the publishers need to dispose with the idea that American readers are somehow morons. But I've ranted about that enough already. I think the title switch was lame though.

Why do you say this is the worst one Emily? Did you just prefer the other books, or was there something in the Philosopher's Stone that made it not a good book to you? :)

Personally, it's one of my favourites, because it contains the line, "We need to make a fire... but there's no wood!" :D
I also love the climax. Hermione, Ron, and Harry are such an awesome team! The chess game was my favourite part of the book. Ron rules. He doesn't get enough love from HP fans.
