View Full Version : Let's Delete Blatant Spam Threads

Why are blantant spam threads ("Get a free DVD" and the like) threads closed instead of deleted altogether? With the recent server trouble, why not save space by getting rid of these small yet completely useless threads?
People will still click on them out of curiosity, thus wasting bandwidth. Further, their very existence is just plain annoying. Well, you all know what I think about spam. But seriously, especially considering that deleted posts can be restored, I see no reason to keep a thread that was made by someone who only joined the board to spam it and will never be heard from again.
Let's keep GM tidy! Throw out that rubbish spam! :D
EDIT: I'm not referring to when a new member accidentally duplicates a thread, or other honest mistakes.

What?
You don't want a free DVD? ;) :p

:p
Yeah... because random internet spam results in actual free DVDs...
But seriously, why not? It couldn't be harder than closing the thread could it? :)

If you feel there's a problem with spam threads, feel free to send me and/or Spock a PM about it. Instead of putting up a post where lots of people will read it and use up even more bandwidth!
:p :D
I feel evil ;).

Haha, okay delete this thread then. :p
My real complaint wasn't the bandwidth thing. Well, I would PM you now, but I would just say exactly what I wrote in the first post. This is the feedback forum, sheesh. :p
I meant advertizing threads by people on their first post. I wouldn't say it's a problem at Entmoot, but I don't see why they shouldn't just get deleted.
EDIT: You know what Twista? No soup for you. :p

What is acually going on?
Why is there so many "free tv etc etc" threads starting up?
Is there no way of stopping them?

Is there no way of stopping them?Well, in the past two days, I have probably deleted 10 or more of those posts, being mostly in GMs, the Entertainment forum, and the Star Wars forum. Hobbit has ban one of the accounts. It looks like a bunch of goofs just got together and decided to have a spam fest on Entmoot. Not at all uncommon to MBs, and usually very occasional, but extreamly annoying. I estimate that there is at least 6-8 accounts doing it.

All efforts are appreciated o worthy smiters of spam!

talking of unecessary bandwidth and Spam: has anyone ever actually had a genuine Spam sandwich?
I was tickled pink by the Documentary yesterday about the VE day celebrations in "Owd' Lernden' Tarn'"
when, having saved up their rations for days, their kids munched through a veritable feast of many Spam sandwiches and a solitary banana! (those that saved the rations, being slightly older indeed had other pleasures on their minds it's inferred ... )
To glutton verily indeed went they in the street parties held to celebrate Victory in Europe day! ( My how times change eh? ;) )
Any free DVD's going i'll have one! :D
