Hobiton was supposed to be Oxford and Minas Tirith somwhere near the area of Florence, Italy. You can take it from there.

I posted this (http://people.wiesbaden.netsurf.de/%7Elalaith/Tolkien/M-e_Euro.jpg) map a while ago - it shows part of Middle Earth (the one known) as Europe. Minas Tirith looks like it's in the sea, or in Croatia - but it's close to what you said Attalus.

I think that it might be better to provid the link (http://rover.vistecprivat.de/~lalaith/M-earth.html) to the main page, since the map without the discussion does lead to more confusion than to anlightment.

based on that, which be a very good map, i have just noticed the Baranduin follows nearly the exact course of the english channel for a bit!
