Me too... my edition is slightly yellow and has only half of the cover and first page intact. Same with the back... everything is bent.

How did he get it, BTW?

Wow..... you guys are so cool! At least you have the first edition Elemmire. My copy of the Sil is the newest one that *cough* came out after the movie. But it's pretty, and in good condition, and best of all... it's the Sil! :D

Oh, I have a first edition of the Sil, I thought you meant the LotR. Now that's pricey.

hehehe... it might be the first edition, but it's falling apart. And my brother refuses to read it because of his "asthma." ;) :D Can you believe that argument? "Reading the Silmarillion made me sick, literally." :p :D

I wish it were the minted edition...

Even my bird won't chew on this thing... and trust me, she eats everything. My LotR's "newest one that *cough* came out after the movie" has bite marks all over it... :D

You can get mint first editions off ebay. Before all the LOTR hype really picked up, I bought mine for relatively cheap - $5, I think.

You can still pick 'em up for way cheap:

Ebay.com (http://search.ebay.com/silmarillion-first-edition_W0QQsokeywordredirectZ1QQfromZR8)
Ebay.co.uk (http://search.ebay.co.uk/silmarillion-first-edition_W0QQsoloctogZ9)

'course I prefer my folio edition of the sil:

Hehehe...

You guys don't know me.

I don't spend money... ever.

I will keep my worndown copy until it falls apart... :D

If my brother ever wants to get around to reading it, he can get a copy out of the library that's less hazardous to his health... :D

Can you guys imagine? He didn't even quit in the beginning... he waited until getting to Turin Turambar, and then decided he was literally getting sick...

urg...

Someone he works with at the church has a used book salesmen, they asked him "Who's your dfavourite author" he said Tolkien and they said "oohh, we've got something for you..."
