View Full Version : What's your ship?

What ships do you sail, and why? I am a Harry/Hermione, Ron/Luna, and Neville/Ginny shipper.

Harry/Hermione: I have been a H/Hr shipper ever since reading the time-turner scene in POA.

Ron/Luna: Luna probably has a crush on him (she hums "weasley is our king" in the hogs head) and he might warm up to her. The main reason I ship this one is it would be so funny to read about!

Neville/Ginny: This one is just a preference, I guess becouse they are both side-line charactors that became importent in OOTP.

Argh...you are pretty much the embodyment of all the ships I hate. Except Harry/Luna, you don't that. I'm sure you're a very nice person though...

My favorite three ships are Ron/Hermione, Harry/Ginny, and Bill/Tonks.

Ron/Hermione- I just love it. I never thought about Harry and Hermione getting together, it's always been Ron and Hermione. It's like...instincitve, I can't explain it. I'm a BIG shipper, I'm a captain on one site and one of the most active members on another.

Harry/Ginny- It's much the same, by being instictive. I don't ship it as much as R/Hr, but it's close. Ginny could do wonders for Harry, since I don't like him much. I think she could change him for the better.

Bill/Tonks- it's just such a cool ship. I don't think it'll happen in canon, but I like it a lot anyway.

Hmmmm... ships? I guess you mean... couples, in slang?

Well, I agree with you, Sirigron, except the last one... Who's Bill? :o
Sorry, Aragorn, but I can't see Ginny with Neville.. it seems logical that Rowling will do that Harry would be with Ginny. One of the Wisley's, and the on ewho always liked him. But didn't seem to have a chance. The same with Hermione and Ron, I guess. Except it's even better. :p

~Siri~Ah, right. If you said Bill Weasley, I'd remmeber,. :)

I can't really see them as a couiple though... I don't remmember much, but I don't think they said much one to the other in the book..?

No...they aren't even in the same book. I just think it would be cool. Bill with his ponytail and fang earring and Tonks with her spiky hair and stuff...like I said, I don't think it'll happen in canon. I'm happy with it in fanon.

Basically. "Ship" is a play on "shippers", which is a shortening of "relationshipper" -- someone who wants two characters in a book or tv show to become romantically involved. I got introduced to the term during my stint in the X-Files universe. :p

I thought ship was short for 'relationship' and shipper was a play off ship....oh well, either way works. :D I got introduced with Harry Potter... because of the name ship, ship threads are normally stuff like 'the HMS' or
'the SS'.... Like R/Hr is the H.M.S Burning Pumpkins, and H/G is the H.M.S. Gryffindor Pride.

What's wrong with Luna/ Ron? I thought she liked him at first when she laughed hysterically at whatever it was that he said. I don't think Luna is out of the question, but admittedly she would be an...interesting person with whom to be in a romantic relationship. :)

First of all, I don't think Ron likes her very much, not even as just a friend. Plus, he belongs with Hermione. :D *shrugs* But hey...that's just me.

I'm a Ron/Luna believer, I guess. I can't really see Ron and Hermy as anything other than friends, tho' JKR has certainly hinted that they'll get together. I think Harry and Hermione have more in common than Ron and Hermione.

sirigorn
10-06-2004, 07:36 PM
Maybe more in common..but their differences are something that makes their relationship-to-be so wonderful! I really can't stand H/Hr...sometimes the shippers can get really obnoxious...no offense to you. And if you look on their threads, all they say is stuff like "Harry and Hermione is so cool!" "Harry and Hermione forever!" Often they don't say why they like it or give any canon evidence...but I'll shut up now. You don't have to agree with me.

hmmm, I liked the Ginny/Neville thing. I love Neville in general and they went to the ball together and everything, and i think Neville likes Ginny like the time in OOTP when they were stuck in Umbridge's office and Neville was like protective of Ginny and stuff.

Oh, and I think the dementors and Voldy is just great. I wish them the best! I wonder what -those- kids would look like.

Oh, and I am definately not for Harry/Hermione. Ick no. Maybe, just maybe Ron/Hermione, but I don't really like that one either. I don't know.

Is that enough canon evidence for you?

sirigorn
10-12-2004, 03:47 PM
Umm...no offense, but all of those sound to me like they're just really good friends. There's a lot of stuff about them being worried for each other, but that doesn't mean there's anything even hinting to a relationship there. Even JKR's said that their relationship is "purely platonic" Look here (http://www.mugglenet.com/books/couples-ronhermione.shtml)

Also on MuggleNet, this was written in the shipping section about H/Hr. They go on to include two essays about it, though.
Our post-OotP thoughts: If there's something going on between the two of them, JKR does an awfully good job covering it up, because we can't see any canon proof hinting at it. "Canon proof? There's plenty!" Harry/Hermione fans say. You all wrote in with the things that happened in OotP that would suggest Harry and Hermione will be together. Harry pulled her back when Grawp tried to grab her, Harry pulled her down when the centaurs attacked Umbridge, Harry pulled her out of the way when the centaurs attacked Grawp, Harry felt horrible when he thought she was dead... The list goes on. Harry and Hermione are best friends. If you thought your best friend was dead, wouldn't you feel horrible too? If a 16-foot-tall Giant with hands the size of trash-can lids was reaching out to grab your best friend, wouldn't you pull her back too? All of this "proof" concedes that Harry does care for Hermione, as he should, but it does not add any weight to the argument behind the possibility of them being anything more than just friends.

Hey, if you look on the astrology part of that first site, note the stuff she has written about HBP:
1. The DADA teacher will be of unusual or FOREIGN origin
2. Harry will travel back in time somehow
3. Harry will be lured somewhere by a female that has been planted as a lure by the DE

All these things sound like our predictions on the other thread! :)

I don't think those quotes were meant to be interpreted that way, but the author of this site is certainly entitled to their opinion.

For example, the reason Harry thought of Hermione immediately when they heard a troll was on the loose is because he and Ron were the only ones who knew she had snuck away. (Or maybe just him. I forget.)

Radagast The Brown
10-13-2004, 04:42 PM
I agree, these are no evidences, as they obviously like each other. Read them again, and show me how they show Hermione & Harry are in love.. if you want to. :)

For example: "They were bound to clear you," said Hermione, who had looked positively faint with anxiety when Harry had entered the kitchen kitchen and was now holding a shaking hand over her eyes.

Even though Hermione is trying to act calm, she can't hide the fact that she was incredibly worried about Harry at the trial. It just means she's a very good friend, and she cares a bout Harry, and likes him very much, as a good friend! Nothing more.

PippinTook

yeah, I agree with everyone else, no Harry/hermione evidence going on. Ron/Hermione on the other hand...I had never really thought about it before until I read the thread Siri posted. That's very interesting. *ponders* *hops on the R/H ship*

D'you see anyone else (Ron ect.) getting that upset and emotional over the hearing?

sirigorn
10-20-2004, 10:01 PM
Okay, here's my book quotes showing that yes, other people were worried. They just show it differently then Hermione, depending on their personalities."I knew it!" yelled Ron, punching the air. "You always get away with stuff!" ...
Mrs. Weasley was wiping her face on her apron, and Fred, George and Ginny were doing a kind of war dance to a chant that went "He got off, he got off, he got off-"You call that not happy that he's off?

Telcontar_Dunedain
10-21-2004, 03:35 AM
And all of the order were worried then relieved. DUmbledore turned up to defend him.

Aragorn_iz_cool
10-21-2004, 01:54 PM
Ron was happy, but he wasn't "positively faint with anxiety"

Mrs. Weasley was the other person who got emotional "wiping her face on her apron" and we knew she loves Harry (although not that way, obviously) Ginny, who you are say Harry will be with, was annoying her mother along with F & G. If JKR is going to put her with Harry, she would have had an invidual reaction. Her plot perpose was in COS, and she is only given and individual role in GOF & OOTP when it has to do with that (I've been possesed by Voldemort), or when she can be used in a way that advances the plot, but has little to do with her (introducing Luna) She is mostly described along with twins, just another weasley, such as the QWC in GOF and the "War Dance" in OOTP. Harry/Luna, on the other hand, I will admit has some evidence, (end of OOTP) although I do not personally support it. (I might be able to learn to like it, unlike H/G, and it could be used as a plot device to lead to H/Hr)

Nurvingiel
10-21-2004, 02:00 PM
As was already pointed out, being positively faint with anxiety was Hermione's reaction to the situation. It doesn't prove that she's in love with him.

But there's no real evidence for or against. So happy shipping everyone! ;)

I don't think romance is going to play much part in the next two books - they're all a bit too young to settle down. That said, I ship R/Hr. Like azalea, I like the line where they're compared to Mr and Mrs Weasley. When will they realise it though? ;)

sirigorn
10-21-2004, 06:34 PM
Actually, there is evidence against H/Hr. In that link I gave you, there was a quote by JKR saying that their relationship is "platonic", which according to dictionary.com means platonic

\Pla*ton"ic\, Platonical \Pla*ton"ic*al\, a. [L. Platonicus, Gr. ?: cf. F. platonique.] 1. Of or pertaining to Plato, or his philosophy, school, or opinions.

2. Pure, passionless; nonsexual; philosophical.Passionless, nonsexual...how is that supposed to mean that they'll be together?

HOBBIT
10-21-2004, 08:31 PM
maybe too lazy to check, but what is "ship" ???? Is that like some weird british slang for couple?

sirigorn
10-21-2004, 09:00 PM
Not British as far as I know. It's netspeak. And yes, it means couple. It's short for relationship. And a shipper is someone who ships (supports) the ship.

Aragorn_iz_cool
10-23-2004, 03:45 PM
A. that wasn't the definiton my dictonery gave:

Platonic Love: A close relationship between two persons in which sexual desire has been suppressed[B] or subliminated.

Suppress: 1. To put down by authority or [B]force 2. to keep from public knowlage: as a. to keep secret b. to stop or prevent the publication of. 3. a: To exclude from conciousness b. to keep from giving vent to 4. to press down

So she might have meant that they are in love, but are suppressing it for the moment.

B. She used the word "are" and that was a very old interveiw.
C. JKR has said things in her interveiws and done diffrent things in the book. There is an essay on that somewhere...

edit: for the actual word platonic, it gave the plato thing and "of or realating to platonic love" and the dictonery was Websters New Collegiate Dictionary.

Edit #2: You mention in a earlier post that H/Hr shippers can be obnoxious, although that is quite true, R/Hr shippers are not any better, as the "Edited for Stupidity" section of HarrylovesHermione.com can show. I'm not saying that all R/Hr shippers are like that, or that H/Hr shippers are any better, just saying that idiocy is not limited to any ship.

sirigorn

Main Entry: pla·ton·ic
1 capitalized : of, relating to, or characteristic of Plato or Platonism
2 a : relating to or based on platonic love; also : experiencing or professing platonic love b : of, relating to, or being a relationship marked by the absence of romance or sex
And then platonic love: 2 : a close relationship between two persons in which sexual desire is nonexistent or has been suppressed or sublimated

Hmm...I got that from Merriam Webster online. Absence of romance or sex? I don't doubt you, but maybe you're misunderstanding it. And then is nonexistent? Anywho, there's no point in arguing about the meaning of platonic. How bout you give me a specific scene where H/Hr is evident? And don't give me a link, I want an actual thing you find.

Sorry about saying you can be obnoxious...I know we can be too, everyone can. But I meant that on one of my sites, some H/Hr shippers come on our R/Hr threads and harass us.

Ron/Hermione: Period. They might not realize yet, but it just... is meant to be... and JKR has dropped so many hints that I almost sometimes think she's trying to trick us.

I also like the Bill/Tonks idea. It does seem to fit; they seem to have similar personalities. If he ever gets done snogging Fleur that is. ;) Maybe a Fleur/Recovered Lockhart pairing? What a couple that'd make, eh?
