View Full Version : Who's your favourite hobbit?

We've had 'Who's your favourite character' and 'Who's your favourite Bad-Guy' so I thought it was about time we had a 'Who's your favourite hobbit' thread as seen as with out hobbits the quest would never have succeded.
Frodo bore the Ring to Mount Doom.
Sam bore the Ring when the quest seemed to be at an end.
Merry helped slay the Witch-King
Pippin looked into th palantir and because of that Gandalf warned Gondor that war had arrive
Fatty Bolger warned Buckland of attack.

My favourite has to be Sam. His courage to take on the quest even when his beloved Mister Frodo had apparantly died because of it.
Followed by a close second of Pippin 'FoolofaTook' Took.

Oh the best hobbit is Merry. His spirt and his drive and his romantic notions of what they are fighting for are so cool. I mean he is just a cool character!

One of my favorite hobits(I wont say most favorite because they are all great) was Gaffer Gamgee. He always had some quote about everything. He seemed quite wise for a little hobbit of the Shire. Yet I wonder, if Bilbo had to take the ring in Frodos place would Gaffer have followed him to the end as Sam did!?

Haradrim
08-26-2004, 06:15 PM
I dont think so. Didnt the Gaffer think he was crazy or something to that extent. But that would have been funny if that had happened.

Halbarad of the Dunedain
08-26-2004, 06:22 PM
Didn't think he was crazy, Gaffer was Bilbo's gardener as am was Frodo's. Gaffer was friends with Bilbo yet still everyone knew he was cracked, if ya get my meaning, as the ol'Gaffer use to say... heh

Haradrim
08-26-2004, 06:35 PM
The Gaffer is a great character but I still have tog o with MErry. Sam is my close second. HE was so brave. He stayed with Frodo till the end and he would have died for Frodo.

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 500 posts in under ten days without spammin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!!!! YIPEE KAYEAH WOOO HOOO! But what should my title be? hmmmmmm

Merry is my favorite hobbit. Need I explain why?

Haradrim
08-27-2004, 12:05 AM
Thats another vote for Merry! Woo Hoo!

My favorite hobbit is Pippin. Is it anyone else's?

Haradrim
08-27-2004, 12:13 AM
Pippin is definately a close second for me. I never liked Frodo that much. Its probably cuz I didnt like his parts in TTT and ROTK. I always thought that they were kind of boring. But I can understand how people would like him. :)

Thain Peregrin Took I
08-27-2004, 12:17 AM
Pippin is definately a close second for me.
Well, a close second is good enough. :)

Haradrim
08-27-2004, 12:37 AM
But who's your close second then? Merry rright (menacing glare) :) just joking around

Bullroarer Took! :D

Haradrim
08-27-2004, 01:28 AM
oh yeah Bull Roarer is defiantley up their for me. I mean he invented golf. That is just so cool.

Telcontar_Dunedain
08-27-2004, 02:11 AM
Yeah and he was over 4ft, the only other hobbits to do that were Merry & Pippin bu he cleared it by 5 inches

Haradrim
08-27-2004, 05:11 AM
yeah and bullroarer was natural whereas Merry and Pip were magically grown.

Telcontar_Dunedain
08-27-2004, 05:35 AM
Yeah a hobbit that could ride a horse, how cool.

Haradrim
08-27-2004, 05:37 AM
So lets see the greates things about Bullroarer:
Rode a horse
naturally wicked tall for a hobbit
extrremley adventurous
invented golf
and many more

I would choose hima s my favorite except I dont know much about him except that. There is no long stroy about him so I dont feel as much of a connection to himas say Merry or Pippen

Telcontar_Dunedain
08-27-2004, 05:40 AM
And the way he invented golf was amazing.

Haradrim
08-27-2004, 05:42 AM
That whole passage is the embodiment of why tolkien is a genius. He takes these serious things and makes them so funny. I mean he invented golf by knocking off an orcs head and it fell in a hole and tus golf was invented. I mean how great of an idea is that. ALso the shire would be perfect for golf. You can just see Bilbo, Frodo, Mery, Pippen, And SAm out on the greens together shootingg some holes. That would be hilarious.

Telcontar_Dunedain
08-27-2004, 05:43 AM
Yeah all wearing those wierd hats and checked jumpers

Haradrim
08-27-2004, 05:46 AM
well they couldnt say fore so I wonder what they would say? Also who win in golf tournament between all the greates t hobbits except bullroarer cause heinvented the game he would automatically win. Between frodo, Sam, merry, poip, fatty bolger, the gaffer, rosie, and all the other great hobbits woho would win in 18 holes.

Telcontar_Dunedain
08-27-2004, 05:48 AM
I'd say Merry he sounds like a natural golfer.

Haradrim
08-27-2004, 05:54 AM
I have to go with Bilbo or Merry. Merry because he seems like he would be perfect for the game and Bilbo cause he would need to do soemthignall those years in the shire and he would have probably gotten very good at it.

Telcontar_Dunedain
08-27-2004, 05:57 AM
Yeah I can just imagine it.

Frodo: Very Good Bilbo, an eagle.
Bilbo: Eagle. That reminds me of the Battle of the Five Armies.
Merry & Pippin: Here we go again.
Sam: (stares watery eye at Frodo and Bilbo)

Haradrim
08-27-2004, 06:04 AM
Some day I should just make a lot of sitcom pilots having to ddo with lotr and just posty them on the moot. THat will be my project until schools starts.

Telcontar_Dunedain
08-27-2004, 06:11 AM
Yeah there are millions of things you could do.

Haradrim
08-27-2004, 06:16 AM
maybe the gaffer would do well Im sure he would qualify for masters competition. Or maybe he was Biblos (oh whats the name for the person who travels around with the golfer with his clubs) oh well you know what I mean.

Telcontar_Dunedain
08-27-2004, 06:19 AM
His caddy, yeah Gaffer Gamgee could recite his proverbs to Bilbo on the way round the course.

Haradrim
08-27-2004, 06:27 AM
well if the AGffer is bilbos caddy then Sam would probably be Frodos. and maybe even Pippen would be MErrys caddy but I am not sure about that last one.

Telcontar_Dunedain
08-27-2004, 06:31 AM
They would probably carry each others

Haradrim
08-27-2004, 06:33 AM
yeah Merry and Pippen would be each others Caddies and they would proabbly get their bags mixed up and get into all kinds of sit-com trouble.

Telcontar_Dunedain
08-27-2004, 06:43 AM
It wouldn't make much difference, them both being the same height an all.

Haradrim
08-27-2004, 06:47 AM
ah merry was taller than pip

Telcontar_Dunedain
08-27-2004, 10:14 AM
But not by enough to make it significant who golf clubs they use.

Meriadoc Brandybuck

Merry would win, of course. He wins everthing in my world. ;) :D

Haradrim
08-27-2004, 11:17 PM
I think it would come dowwn to MErry or Bilbo. Bilbo on experiance and Merry juct because he seems like just the kind of guy who would be great at golf. Sam would probably be the frustrated guy who always lands in the sand or water. :)

Meriadoc Brandybuck
08-28-2004, 12:25 AM
Merry just because he seems like just the kind of guy who would be great at golf.
All that practice in sword-swinging payed off. ;) :)

Haradrim
08-28-2004, 06:15 AM
yeah but I dont think Pippen would be an actual golfer. i think he would be the funny caddy for Merry. No offense to Pippen lovers but he just seems more caddyish to me. So what if we open up this golf tournament to the world. Nobody magical just elves, men, dwarves, hobbits. I have to go with Elrond. He just seems the type who would maybe shoot a few holes with Gandalf and the likees. Also he probably had a wicked set fo elvish made golf clubs and I bet Rivendell was just the country club for a golf course. Can you imagine it. Bilbo Gandalf and oother LOTR members go in their check their bags and shoot a few holes. I think that would really work.

I think Pippin would be just as good as Merry, though he would probally lose interest when meal time came around.... but in my world Pippin and Merry would be the best hobbit golfers.

yeah Merry and Pippen would be each others Caddies and they would proabbly get their bags mixed up and get into all kinds of sit-com trouble.
Probally, 'cause who else would be their caddies? It would be really funny to watch them be each other's caddies.

I think the Gaffer would be my favorite. He lives next door to Bilbo, and for that I envy him :p.
Edit: Instead I get Siggy for a neighbor.

Well, so he wouldn't get distracted, he could bring a big bag of food to eat between holes. He could still be Merry's caddy, but he would play too, with Merry as his caddy.

The party we were talking about in this thread yesterday, and in the Favorite Hobbit one today.
TB will be in soon. We decided it's time to post a thread on the "Emptiness of Entmoot." Well, more like he decided. I can only go on what he's been telling me for months. He's psoting it now.

Bilbo is my favorite. He adapted to adventure without any friends from home and he was one of only two characters (along with Sam) to ever give up the Ring freely.

Telcontar_Dunedain
08-30-2004, 01:58 PM
And Bilbo possesed it for alot longer.

Haradrim
09-01-2004, 07:46 PM
But then again Gandalf was there to help him and Biblo never tried to destroy the ring which frodo did. So the rign worked harder against Frodo and corrupted him much quicker. and Gandalf was his friend. :)

Do you ever run out of good points . I'll have to admit this is another.
Bilbo didn't even know the ring was evil, however.

Haradrim
09-01-2004, 07:55 PM
But if he had known the ring ws evil he probably would have been the one to go to Mordor. He would probably have known soon after he found it and they would have taken it to Mount Doom as soon as possible and the ring would have worked just as hard against him. :) Thanks for the good poitns comment. :)
