Earlier I posted this http://entmoot.tolkientrail.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4907&highlight=walken
That Christoper Walken read for Han Solo.
Just read and article in EMPIRE that Al Pacino turned down the role.

i like christopher walken as an actor but he always has that same voice and it just brings all of his movies back to my mind, pacino would of been good but luckily scarface came after if he had taken it instead of after other wise i could only see tony montana flying the millenium falcon. i think one of the best actors out there who i think can play any role that could play han solo is sean penn. of all his movies i haev seen hes a completely different person like high times at bellemont high(i think that is what it is called, i cant remember), dead man walking, i am sam, mystic river hes always just so unrecognizable from his other roles, whenever i see orlando bloom i just see the elf so i think his career will go far but he wont be getting any roles that dont involve his looks.

I could see Chris Walken, he is very talented and gives movies a quirky twist, plus he has a strange, fun flair for odd comedy. Was the Han Solo part writen with the sort of funny sarcasm, or did Harrison Ford turn it like that? (your worshipfulness! :D ) Al Pacino seems too short, "heavy", and angry.

I just watched "GlenGarry GlennRoss" with Pacino. I think Iwould have loved to hear him say " This ain't like dusting crops back home kid"

Wait... I just watched the extended documentary on the star wars dvds, and it explicitly says that lucas wanted to cast unknowns, as was extremely reluctant to cast Harrison Ford for that reason... I dunno about Walken, but wasn't Pacino extremely established at that stage? Hence, being out of the question for playing Han?

yeah - i watched that long documentary too.
it said that lucas wanted complete unknowns for the roles - he didnt want ford because he was just in Lucas' American Grafitti.
They showed screen readings of some famous people today - like Kurt Russel auditioning for Han Solo (either that or Luke).

American Graffiti!! HA! He's so funny in that role- "Tell him I mean to race him. Tell him I mean to blow his --- off the road!" It's kind of funny to see him play a big bad hunk. After Star Wars, he doesn't really play too many 'bad guys'.

Harrison Ford put most of that in when he was helping read the lines for other people's auditions so Lucas cast him
how many of george lucus's films has harrison ford been in. he's been in the three star wars films, the three indiana jones films and americian graffiti. that makes 7 are there any more?
