Confidence (I’ll carry on)
by Xenoia

There was once a time, people were free
Young and didn’t know the way it was going to be
Living, that’s just a game, and everyone plays it, just the same.

I still remember the way I cried
The first time you hurt me, deeply, you lied
You were just like me, but stronger
And the first cut ached for longer

chorus
I always tried so hard
- too hard
To work my way in from the edge
But one too many bruises changed me
Ripped my confidence away
But I’ll carry on anyway
You’ll see

I loved someone today, I thought it was you
But I never knew how cruel…you f****d me through
And your love cut me deepest, bleeding my regret
You made a hole in my heart and I’ll never forget.

chorus

Time is a healer, that’s what they say
It’s not, I learned, I learned the hardest way
People are too harsh; they don’t know the wounds they leave
Or see the gaping scars that cross my soul – they won’t heal.

There’s always someone better, prettier, smarter, stronger
Don’t tell me that again – I let you in once, now I’m writing this song
Look at me and see me secure…closer, you’re wrong.

chorus
But even though I know now
Life is still just a game
And I’ll carry on anyway

Just watch me.

I wrote this today and think it expresses some things I've felt for a while now. Or perhaps it doesn't, and just avoids saying them. Still I thought I'd see what people thought, if anything at all. :)

I liked it. Have you set it to music yet?
