View Full Version : Your choice for James Bond

Pierce Brosnan seem's to be stepping down from the role after the next film, and there are many names floating around as to who might replace him, not least among them Orlando Bloom...

Personally, I think Orlando's too girly looking to be Bond, and I feel the same way about Jude Law, who's also been rumoured for the part.

For a long time Clive Owen seemed a dead cert, especially when, apparently, Pierce reccomended him to the producers and the producer of Goldeneye mentioned him favourably in an interview. After watching him in Croupier tonight I think he'd be perfect for the role. Like Sean Connery he actually looks like what I'd imagine a lady killer to be.

Anyway, he'd be my choice. Who would you like to be the next Bond?

if its orlando then the bond series has gone to hell, a far out suggestion for me would maybe be johnny depp only because he can play basically any role. i could see him as a bond but barely. i would probably go with cilve owen as a for sure

Colin Farrell's name has also been bandied about.

Please!!! Say it ain't so!!!

(Not my vision of Bond at all. James Bond with a uninbrow...blech!!!)

Ooooh!!! Any votes for Viggo Mortensen??? (I know he's not British, but does that matter, really???)

i think the bond thing has been pretty lame for a while... i'd rather see them go the comic route these days, since that's basically what it is, though unintentionally, i think

how about will farrel? :p

or maybe Jack Black?:p
I heard some rumors about Ewan Mcgregor bieng interviewed, but apperantly he didnt want the role (thank goodness!)

Bond movies have always been "camp." That's by design. They aren't really made to be taken seriously.

Will Farrel...that would take Bond to the "beyond camp" level. (A far better choice than Colin Farrell....)

More interested in who will direct it, COME ON QUENTIN!!!!:D
hate to see Orlando Bloom do it, im not sure who would fit it, but Colin Farrel at least has some acting ability

The early Bond movies weren't camp at all, and the books certainly aren't.

He wants to direct a remake of Ian Fleming's original 007 story 'Casino Royale', with Brosnan as Bond and Thurman (Tarantino's muse :)) as the Bond girl.

As for who should take over after Brosnan - I was thinking since Bond has been played by a Scotsman, an Australian, an Englishman, a Welshman and an Irishman - wouldn't it be fitting with an actor from, say New Zealand? :)
I heard Russel Crowe might become the next Bond, and he's from NZ. He's a bit old though, a younger person like Colin Farrel would probably be better.

A Tarantino Bond film? Hmmm be really radical and give it to Merchant-Ivory. I could imagine the script:

"M": Jolly good to see you again Mr Bond! And how was India?
JB: Quite agreeable. I gave your regards to the Choudhury's.
"M": Splendid! Do they still have that little place in the hills?
JB: Indeed. And they were marvellous hosts. Mrs Choudhury plays an excellent game of gin-rummy, I have to say.
"M": Ah yes dear old Franny! And what of Mr Choudhury, how is he?
JB: Ah...he's dead.
"M": Dead?
JB: Yes, I killed him. Turned out he was a double agent.
"M": Oh what a dashed shame! Poor Franny must have been upset.
JB: Well, indeed. It quite put her off her hand of whist at the time. Still, she rallied round and won the rubber in the end.
"M": Ah that's the spirit! No sense letting things like these upset you.
JB: Quite. More tea?

A Bond movie needs an actor with the necessary style to do the part. So I think Daniel Day-Lewis would do nicely, don't you?

My brother was an extra in one of the Roger Moore films -- "The Man With the Golden Gun." He was living in Bangkok at the time. He and a friend did it for a lark.

Funny you should mention Quentin Tarrantino, because Sean Connery said this a while ago:

Connery, who stars as King Arthur in the current First Knight, says that his favorite Bond film remains From Russia With Love.
His critique: "It's a real story. It has interesting characters." According to Connery, the Bond movies lost their way with "all this space stuff." Connery has his own remedy for resuscitating the spy series: "I suggested that they get director Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction) and get an original script by him. That would have a different slant."

Another interesting quote of Connery's:

" Timothy Dalton never got a handle on the role. He took it seriously in the wrong way." The secret? "The person who plays Bond has to be dangerous. If there isn't a sense of threat, you can't be cool."

I think Hugh Jackman could pull off 'threatening', and Clive Owen even more so, but I don''t think I could ever feel threatened by Ewan McGregor, Orlando Bloom, Colin Farrel, Johnny Depp and the rest.

In case you're wondering where I'm getting all these tid-bits:

I'd prefer someone along the lines of Timothy Dalton.

Hugh Jackman sounds the best to me sofar.

As for directors I have nothing against Quentin Tarantino but I wouldn't want to see Thurman as a Bond girl, at least not in the next film.

it would be hard to imagine thurman and hugh jackman together, i dont think they would mix to well. but that is just me:o

I've been tagging Clive Owen's name to this one since back when the only thing he was known for was the BMW commercials, but reports are that he refuses to do Bond as the commitment would preclude him from doing other projects in which he is more interested.

Too bad they want to replace Brosnan, I think he's a very good Bond and I don't think he's too old for it yet.

I think Brosnan was and is too gay to be Bond. They need someone hardcore. That means no Orlando Bloom either.

Brosnan is the same age as I am. He is definately not too old!!! :p

But I understand it was his his decision to step down. :(

There is a dearth of debonair younger actors to take his place, but I still think Viggo Mortensen shows some promise, as does Hugh Jackman. And they are both as cute as bugs ears!!!:D ;) :p

There's also the Welsh actor Ioan Gruffud. He's not in a whole lot but is quite talented, and can also do a few different languages and accents.

Note: I can't vouch for his performance in King Arthur, having never seen it.

Bond has to be the legal equivalent of gangster, an i'm talking good ol' fashioned south london gangster here, suave, sophisticated, handsome, lady-killer, but ultimately dangerous. George Lazenby and Timothy Dalton were wrong for the role, lazenby's too boring and dalton was too scruffy to be bond

so to choose a new one, with london gangster in mind, the guy that played andy hunter in eastenders, whatever his name is, erm, i also would be good, he is too old really but i would love to see hugo weaving as bond :p erm, rhys ifans would be funny, maybe too funny, mmm, and of course perfect would be Nigel Harman, oh yeah, devilishly handsome, and a londoner

Let's just cast Vinnie Jones then... or Lee Bowyer. He has the 'taken whoever I need to take' attitude.

*Not to these fortunate enough to not know either of the above* Vinnie Jones is a soccer player who was a 'hardman' and who later became an actor.
Lee Bowyer is a current soccer player who managed somehow to get into a on-field fist-fight with a member of his own team... something which hadn't happened for about 20 years.

Last thing I heard is that they've started talking again to Brosnan (Not sure if it's a rumour or legitimate) to continue playing Bond. That'd be great, anyway. They don't need a better Bond, just better scripts. ;)

Although there was also talk of simultaniously make a movie/series (not sure which one) about a younger version of James Bond with Orlando Bloom.

Hm... I dunno... I think they should just cast Ben Affleck as James Bond, Britney Spears as the Bond girl, and let the series die a glorious death. ;) (Or, as Andúril glibly suggested... Andy Dick. That would brutally murder the series right there. :D )

If they want to turn out a few more movies, I think Clive Owen or Ioan Gruffud would be good choices. They were both pretty good in King Arthur. I think Clive Owen could handle a sophistocated type gangster role.

I could have sworn I already posted this somewhere. Now I feel silly... :o
