Lucky me! I was down in the University of Durham's Archaeology Department for a meeting today and I saw a poster for a lunchtime seminar on the archaeology of Middle Earth this Friday! I'm definitely going to try and get to it, sounds fun!

Intresting to hear what kind of archaeology talk it is.
Here's a thought, how about a Robert Ballard-type undersea archaeology exploration. Go out to the area of Beleriand, using the island that stayed above water as a reference (wasn't that Morwen's gravesite?) and check out remains of Gondolin, Menegroth, and perhaps Eglarest.

Well, assuming I can get to the seminar I'll get anything I can from it and pass it on, that's a promise!

Oooohh, I was going to go to that. But then there was the little problem of getting out of school and finding money to get the bus there.
But yeah, tell us all if you can get to it. :)

Lalaith - you live near Durham?
I made it and it was a nice way to dodge an hour of work! The diagrams and artwork were from fairly standard resources like The Atlas of Middle Earth but the actual spiel about a dig at the Hornburg was excellent fun. He's promised me a copy and said I can distribute it, will let you know when I get my hands on it.

Hi folks, Miles was as good as his word and I have his seminar notes as a Word document. PM me with your e-mail address and I'll gladly send it. Just the text, not the illustrations as a) I don't have them and b) even if I did I'm assured they're too large to email.
