View Full Version : Paragraphing - make your posts readable

Okay, so here's the deal:

Many of you post long works that span several posts, nay, several chapters, that are probably copy-and-pasted from your word processor file. Some of them are incredibly hard to read, because Entmoot doesn't process paragraph indentations as tabs, and the lack of double-line-breaks (bad enough in their own right, but better) makes your work very hard to read. Because of that, I know I'm probably not the only one who finds it hard to make it through the entire piece and give you the constructive feedback you deserve.

So, here's a tip. For those of you using Microsoft Word - which should be most of you, and if you don't, you probably have enough computer savvy to figure out a similar solution yourself - instead of copy-and-pasting your entire file into a set of Entmoot posts, do this:

1) Go to Edit -> Replace...
2) In the "Find:" box, type "^p" (paragraph break).
3) In the "Replace With:" box, type "^l^l" (double line break - and that's a lowercase L, not an uppercase I).
4) Hit "Replace All".
5) Copy and paste the text into your posts.
6) Post them on the board.
7) Go back to your file and hit "Undo" to restore how you formatted your piece before.

Thanks - and if it doesn't work, let me know what the problem is and I'll be more than happy to walk you through it.

That's a good tip Tessar. It will be faster than editing the whole thing, which is what I do. *ponders wasted hours*

Instead of checking all of the threads and posts is this section for any writings or just Fantasy and LotR writings!?

The Writer's Workshop isn't only for Fantasy or LoTR, but that's mostly what gets posted here.

I will tweek my posts until they are readable. I haven't yet posted any real long ones-yet. When an RPG thread gets going, then that is when you will start seeing really long posts from me.

Not enough can be said about the addition of the extra line space between paragraphs. Try and apply proper writing rules to your computer posts, and the readability increases massively.

I can't count how many presumably good fanfics I passed reading because the screen format was nearly unreadable. Take the time, and preview the posts, and add the line spaces.

Happy Writing!
